Kelpie 2nd Gear July 2, 2006 Share July 2, 2006 Hi Bros, 1. Don't intend to get an ECU writer yet but looking at an ECU reader. 2. Any good one to recommend to me? I heard there are good one that can estimate your car's performance such as bhp and etc. Can an ECU reader be upgraded later to a writer without changing the hardware? Thank you. Sheltie2306 Neutral Newbie July 2, 2006 Share July 2, 2006 The so called ECU reader normally refers to OBDII scanner. This is a generic troubleshooting tool that supposes to work on most cars that

Mok_ Neutral Newbie July 2, 2006 Share July 2, 2006 The ElmScan5 mentioned by Sheltie should serve your purpose. It doesn't really read the ECU like ECU Flashers. It simply reads sensor readings from the ECU. Your car is using the ISO protocol, the cheaper ElmScan ISO will suffice. Both can be bought locally from BuddyClub. There is need to order from US. I've done some mods to the car so is eager to know what yields are there. I read that an ECU scanner/reader/flasher can estimate the bhp and present othrr ratios and statistics about the car. Thanks. Mok_ Neutral Newbie July 3, 2006 Share July 3, 2006 I think there are Elm compatible softwares that allow you to do a dyno with just a laptop and ElmScan 5 or ElmScan ISO plugged into the OBD-II DLC. It gives an indicative dyno but is no where near an on-wheel dyno. Check with Saaber, he might be able to give you a demo. ↡ Advertisement
