The C230 from 2003 to 2005 have the similar 1.8l engine as the C180 and C200 but the C230 never reached our shores as C&C felt that the C230 would compete with the sales of the C240 (which is a V6).

As far as I know, the differences between the 3 models are the ECU and the supercharger to give the following outputs: C180 (143bhp), C200 (163bhp) and C230 (192bhp).

C180K: M271 Kompressor engine "detuned" to lesser 143 bhp

C200K: M271 Kompressor engine at 163bhp. This is like the standard setting for M271 engine

C230: M272 V6 2.5L at around 200+bhp

C280: M272 V6 3L tuned to 232 bhp

C350: M272 V6 3.5L (avail here). A beauty at 272 bhp.

C55 AMG: V8 5.5L at 270kW (around 365 bhp)

Best deal for us is probably the C200K (low rd tax) or the C230 (smooth V6 entry).

The price of a C200K Sports Edition now could only get me a C180K Elegance 2 years ago [bigcry]

laugh.giflaugh.gif just my observation, correct me if I am wrong.... the C180/200 (is there a 230?) are all using the same engine block just different state of tune for the SC. So technically, a buyer could buy the C180 and tune it to perform like its "bigger" sibblings right?

That's why with a Kleeman kit (pulley enhancements to SC) and a K-Box piggy back, the 163bhp will be tuned to 200bhp. Add on the Kleemann header, and it'll approach 230bhp for the 1.8L M271 C200K/E200K.

Well said..Vblaster.

I have not tried taking apart the door of my previous A-class or my current C-class. Wonder how it looks like?

I had tried on the Japanese ones and they have a plastic sheet only, what about the merc? Any pictures?

Ok. Thanks.

Looks like the current promo on the C180 sports is a good deal. Add the Kleeman kit and a piggy back and it will be as good as the C200....... wink.gif

Saw someone installed custom ICE on E Class. The interior has some damping and definitely better cover than the typical Japanese offerings.

Cool_Jazz, the C180K can only take the K-Box, not the Kleemann pulley kit. It can probably be tuned to around C200K, whereas the C200K can go up to 200 or even 230bhp.

laugh.gifBut some cars like Saab, the block may be the same but cams and traction control are different for their 2.0t and their 2.0T (Vectra formally known as Aero).

Haha, yeah, was thinking of the C180, upgrade the chip for a lot less than the $10k difference and then its back up to spec [;)]

btw Cool Jazz, have we met before, cause it seems to me as if you know me [crazy]

If water sips in between the rubber lining and the metal door frame, and it stays on there (hard to dry), you get rust after a while.

LOL! Water always and is designed to "sip in" for our car doors! Water will also sip in between side window glass and rubber strips into the internal of the doors.

The doors will then have drainage holes for the water to sip out again.

Take open any car door, and you'll understand better. Conti doors like Merc usually will have additional damping sheets which will insulate asound (prevent rattle), and also protect the more water sensitive door electronics. Japanese makes may have just a plastic sheet inside. That's why we strip our doors and insulate further.

Don't be overly critical if you're not sure about the workings of some of these designs. For e.g. like for many sunroof design, no matter how good the rubber linings, water will seep through (and a lot in a downpour!). The water is then drained via plastic tubes down the inside of the A pillar.

Perhaps you really should make a trip to the Merc showroom to see it for yourself. And keep me posted on your views thereafter, OK?

There is absolutely no reason for water to sip in to that top part of the window frame. & I don't see any drainage there either.

* I agree that the C Class is a good car in general. But by sharing the faults of this car, we can all learn from it - that is the primary purpose of a forum. [;)]

C230 has already ready reach our shore liao... but no longer the 1.8L SC engine.

It is using a 2.5L V6 engine @ 204bhp.

The coming new FL E200k (Q4 this year) will be using the new 1.8L SC engine... 184bhp (21bhp up from current model) [inlove].

I think it will be adopted in coming new model C200k...

Slight difference in the supercharger, hence not advised by Kleemann to use their pulley kit.

OIC..... SC can be changed also lah.... just like the snail in TC cars

2.5 years, everyday under shine and rain (working place no shelter carpark) except weekends and 80 000 km, I don't see any problem with the rubber or drainage problem.
