Dice 3rd Gear June 26, 2006 Share June 26, 2006 Hullo, i am thinking of using Cleaner Wax (from Meg) on my ride, but i am really afraid of using it wrongly, so any advice from the seasoned blink-blinkers on how i should use this cleaner wax. For instance, apply how much (compared to size of 50c coin) over how big an area? What applicator? Apply in circular motion? etc... Currently, i am just washing, claying and waxing (paste) my ride but really keen to test out cleaner wax to see if car can blink more. Thanks y'all. ↡ Advertisement
Mits_jc 5th Gear June 26, 2006 Share June 26, 2006 (edited) i sold off the meguair cleaner wax because if you leave it for a while before buffing off like what the instructions say, u get lots of white powder that is a pain in the a*s to remove. so stay away from it. unless you plan to get a quik detailer solution as well and buff off with it which should solve the powdery residue problem. Ah_bon Neutral Newbie June 26, 2006 Share June 26, 2006 If i'm not wrong, the white residue is the abrasive compound in cleaners. no choice wan. not just the meg product. many others also have the same white residue which also stain the plastic trimmings. Like what you say, get ready a QD, should help. if not, tape up the trimmings with paint safe tapes.
Toalson 1st Gear June 27, 2006 Share June 27, 2006 JW range does not seemed to hv tat problem. It will not leave white residue. I just started using PA.
Pinkangel Neutral Newbie June 27, 2006 Share June 27, 2006 Sorry, OT here. But what's the use of a QD other than resolving white powder left on the car?
Biccat Neutral Newbie June 27, 2006 Share June 27, 2006 QD or quick detailer is a mixture of sealant cleaning agents and water. It serves the dual purpose of cleaning up as well as provide a thin layer of sealant on the car's paintwork and best used in between car waxes or protection sessions. When used regularly, it helps to fill up those imperfectations in the sealant layer.
Deepblue06 Neutral Newbie June 27, 2006 Share June 27, 2006 I am using Turtlewax Platinum Ultra Gloss paste wax with Meg foam pad. Pretty decent cleaning properties and the shine is .
Burgerdog Neutral Newbie June 27, 2006 Share June 27, 2006 I'm a new convert of JW products. Especially impressed with Prime Strong. It not only has great cleaning properties, it also gives off a great shine! Think your car will definitely 'blink' more... You can try contacting Bro Gen2 to see if he still has stock. Dice 3rd Gear June 27, 2006 Author Share June 27, 2006 Thanks everyone... can any guru give advice on how to apply cleaner wax, pour how much on applicator and if apply in circular or horizontal motion? Am i right to think cleaner wax will remove minor water marks? Thanks for all your tips and tricks...
Genie47 1st Gear July 1, 2006 Share July 1, 2006 QD is also great as a wetting base to apply sealants. You however have to be careful. There are 2 types of QDs out there. There are wax based and the synthetic sealant based types. Of course the wax based ones should be avoided if you are using the QD as a wetting base on your applicator. Hyun Neutral Newbie July 3, 2006 Share July 3, 2006 i use mother's cleaner wax and yesterday i used it on my windscreen. today rained, looked ok. seems to work, but is wrong? i use it together with mother's QD (showtime) sometimes. i resorted to it to remove tough waxy stains after trip up malaysian highway & also parking under trees.... Ah_bon Neutral Newbie July 3, 2006 Share July 3, 2006 Cleaners like AIO does help to remove light contaminants. The more you work it into the paint, the more effective it is. But that also means, more elbow grease Meg's one i've not use before. but it should i guess... The amount to use differs for different products. Read the labels to be sure. But generally, a 50 cent coin size to spread around a panel eg boot. Thin layer will be fine. if not, it'll be PITA to remove later. work in circular overlapping motion. Silgt Neutral Newbie July 3, 2006 Share July 3, 2006 Especially impressed with Prime Strong. It not only has great cleaning properties, it also gives off a great shine Have you prevously tried Klasse AIO, Carlack68, AIO from Chemical Guys or FK215? Not my intention to say good/bad things or praise/knock any products in particular but I actually do a quick test on 5 different All-In-One or chemical cleaners (the 4 mentioned above + JW Prime Strong) and do a blind test to let several friend see and feel which they like best. Non can tell any conclusive difference in terms of shine & sleekness. Granted I did not do a thorough surface prep nor the viewing was done at the best lighting (around 6pm last Sat) but suffice to say under normal usage, one will be hard-pressed to differentiate one product from the other. They are mostly "equally" good and I have no problem recommending any of them. Usage are pretty similar too and it's up to each user's individual preference. Will run another test, this time with full surface prep + application using a DA in the next couple of weeks to see if there're any variation in results... Rontheman Neutral Newbie July 3, 2006 Share July 3, 2006 Some cleaner wax contains abrasives and Prime Strong falls into that category whereas Klasse AIO does not contains any abrasives. As such, you can expect Prime Strong to be a better product at eliminating swirls and such.
Burgerdog Neutral Newbie July 3, 2006 Share July 3, 2006 (edited) I have tried Klasse AIO. In terms of slickness, I feel that it's about the same. However, JW Prime appears to provide a "whiter" shine. However, you might have a point in saying the eyes see what the mind wants to... But looking at another point of view, if your're happy, why be so particular? Edited July 3, 2006 by Burgerdog
Silgt Neutral Newbie July 3, 2006 Share July 3, 2006 your car is white I gather? mine silver so there might be slight difference in final results/appearance. if your heart is happy, why be so particular? that's exactly my point....not being particular, rather trying to point out after trying several brands of chemical cleaner, I can't find an overwhelming difference to prefer one brand from to another to justify a switch. Alas, it's one's preference. Use whatever floats your boat, as long as it makes you happy Happy detailing...

As such, you can expect Prime Strong to be a better product at eliminating swirls and such. exactly because Klasse AIO contains no abrasive, I have successfully used it on all my external rubber/vinyl trim, headlights & windscreen besides it's primary purpose as a paint cleaner/polish. I however will not recommend using it for your internal dash detailing unless you want your car to smells like a chemical truck Edited July 3, 2006 by Silgt ↡ Advertisement
