Geogeo Neutral Newbie June 26, 2006 Share June 26, 2006 Dear fellow MCFers, For those who drive the FL N.Sunny, any idea what viscosity & type of engine oil used during the first 3 free servicing (1000km, 5000km & 10000km) & following Nissan Preventive Maintenance Program, NPMP, (20000km, 30000km,40000km & 50000km)? What I heard is - mineral 15W50 for 1000km, 5000km & 10000km (For 10000km, need to top up in order to use synthetic. If not, following NPMP will be 15000km, 25000km, 35000km & 45000km) - synthetic 5W40 for 20000km, 30000km,40000km & 50000km Any idea? ↡ Advertisement
Genie47 1st Gear June 26, 2006 Share June 26, 2006 Screw all this preventive maintenance program lah. The only preventive maintenance is change the oil every 10k. The oil sump is very small. Around 2.7L which is around 3qts of oil. It isn't much to go for long drain no matter how bloody synthetic or expensive the oil is. The next thing is the viscosity. A Sunny is spec'd to use all the way down to 5W20. No problem. You might not realize the fuel economy benefit immediately but over the long run you will. If 5W20 looks too thin for you go up the grade up to 10W30. I do not recommend any 40wt even a 0W40 for a typical Japanese grocery getter. I've used such oil in my Aveo and the FC hit is very bad. No more 40wt oils for new 4-banger NA cars.
Geogeo Neutral Newbie June 26, 2006 Author Share June 26, 2006 I just bought C4 cxxxxxe 5W40. Thought it's recommended & can use it for my 1 month plus old Sunny breaking in oil change between 5000km & 10000km oil change. Now a bit regretted to buy it. Genie47 1st Gear June 26, 2006 Share June 26, 2006 Nevermind. Can go back and stock up on the 5W30 or 10W30. You intend to sell your car after it serves you for a short 3-5yrs? Just use mineral oil. Don't care about the car, it will survive.
Geogeo Neutral Newbie June 26, 2006 Author Share June 26, 2006 I travelled 100-150km daily. 60-70% highway. Thinking 100% Syn 5W40 is more suitable for my daily travelling duration. That's why bought the C4 cxxxxxe 100% syn 5W40.
Genie47 1st Gear June 26, 2006 Share June 26, 2006 With that highway mileage, any oil can survive very well. Go for thin.
Geogeo Neutral Newbie June 26, 2006 Author Share June 26, 2006 I'm intending to use it 6 to 8yrs. That's why I'm starting to take care of it when it's brand new.
Genie47 1st Gear June 26, 2006 Share June 26, 2006 6-8yrs is still new for a car. Take care of it with regular oil changes. Whether it is synthetic or not doesn't matter. The car don't care. We don't get pirated engine oils here like in Malaysia. So don't worry.
Geogeo Neutral Newbie June 26, 2006 Author Share June 26, 2006 Thanks, Genie47, for your expertise advice. But you sounds like you're in the oil research field.
Clubace Clutched June 26, 2006 Share June 26, 2006 Ignore those 15000 km,25000km in the booklet which TC aint going to do it for free. Go at interval of 10000km after 10000km mileage, which is what TC recommends. In any case, i tot at 10k km they switch to synthetic oil??
Geogeo Neutral Newbie June 26, 2006 Author Share June 26, 2006 Only N16 Sunny is servicing free up till 50000km without hidden cost. That's confirmed by the SE.
Clubace Clutched June 26, 2006 Share June 26, 2006 Yes, but its at 10k km after 10k km mileage.
Exxo Neutral Newbie July 13, 2006 Share July 13, 2006 I travelled 100-150km daily. 60-70% highway. Thinking 100% Syn 5W40 is more suitable for my daily travelling duration. That's why bought the C4 cxxxxxe 100% syn 5W40. My buddy drive a VIOS and travelled abt 100km every day and always changed oil every 8-9k km he feel comfortable on 5W40 and always buy cxxxxxe during promotion since is so cheap might as well use this viscosity
