I didn't edit the pics. I guess someone is shy.

His name is Tomee. He came over to my place for a day of detailing on his gf's car.

Here was his write-up:

well started off by heading over to lokturne aka terrence's house to get some detailing done.

swirls had gotten the better of the car after a few months, so i asked for his help to try out different machines.

i bought over some products and we got started at around 1pm sunday.

started off with a RO, using SSR 2.5 on a section of the bonnet.

i buffed slow to moderate for about 2 mins.

buffed off with a MF, and it left some hazing

i wanted a quick process that gave a nice shine, this was not it

so terrence bought out the big guns

my first use of a rotary ever!

bought it out with a green edge pad, and started off with Optimum compound

Terrence did a quick pass to show me how to use it,

since ive never used these products before i wasnt sure how they would go

tried to buff offf, and it was difficult, used some S&G to make removing of the product easier.

after buff off, it seemed to have left some marring.

so we bought out optimum polish, i really like this product, nice shine to it

and that made the surface 100% better than before.

we still wanted to try out some more combos, so Terrence wanted to use his newly aquired festool rotex.

tried a sonus pad with i think it was OCP, after listeing to terrence and saying the sonus pads dont really like to turn, i observed and realised this was true.

we then quikcly switched pads to a megs polishing on the rotex, was abit better.

i must say you have to get used to the rotex, at first i thought the machine was ear piercing. doesnt help that i have tinnitus either!

i asked terrence if i could use the rotary instead, as i liked it much better.

so i went around the car with optimum compound and a green edge pad

here i am

while i was doing that, terrence was testing out the rotex in spots with OCP, came out really nice and wet.

after me doing most of the car with a rotary, decided to call it a day and finish off at my house the next day.

its always like Christmas visiting Terrence, as i get samples to try out :D

borrowed the rotary with an blue edge polshing pad

i started off today unsure of what product to use.

thought id start with sonus sfx-2

tried the front quarter panel, and after i buffed off, it seemed to have left oily residue i couldnt remove. tried buff off with #34, removed some of it, but was still around.

so i went over the panel again with sfx-1, same thing

so i stopped using them, and used #80 another pass of the same panel, came out nicer, but 80 left marring :?:

ok so im getting alittle agitated, so i step down to #9, same panel, after buff off the panel was glossier, but wasnt cutting it to remove swirls and light scratches.

i look at the range and thought id give menzerna po37cp a try

same panel quick pass, and boy was i amazed! 8O

this product has a killer shine! and just agressive enough to remove light swirls

i stuck with this to finish off the car, althought still learning the rotary i had alot of slinging and splattered all over my garage! lol

they were easily removed off the windows using a clay bar.

and off the trim using PB TR

sory i couldnt get any full shots of the car, no light outside...

and here are the results of the menzerna

wetness!

best full shot i could get

one drawer of some of the products used

ADS MF towel. you can see some small splatter dots in this pic

2196IMG_6533.JPG

this side done, complete with splattered windows

2196IMG_6529.JPG

look at that ass!

2196IMG_6523.JPG

overall, i think the menzerna will be my goto polish!, and ill have to get my hands on a rotary with some edge pads!

That's it. [:)]

That's a very detailed write-up on the whole process and I see that you are using the Metabo rotary machine [sly] . Did you order it on-line or it is on sale in Australia ? Locally we do not have the model you are using, how do you compare it to the usual Makita rotary we are using.

And btw which Menzerna polish did you guys used, menzerna po37cp does not sound very familiar to me. Anyway like what you guys said, you can never go wrong with Menzerna polish [thumbsup] .

If you look hard enough you can see part of the Makita behind Tomee's head in the 2nd pic.

The Metabo is much lighter and imo more well balanced than the Makita. I bought it locally at a hardware store, although they had to order it in.

I didn't like the PO73CP much myself. I only tried two quick passes with the Rotex. It seems to be much nicer to use by rotary but I haven't tried that myself.
