Flaser Neutral Newbie March 14, 2003 Author Share March 14, 2003 Quote The Air-con pipe is mostly Aluminium and will not corride. I think he wants to sell you some material. The air-con insulation tube cost about $2 per 2 metre from Res-Air. Anyway, I wrapped mine... only effect is air-con much colder. Come for meetup and I can show you mine. Thanks Cool! Maybe I can take a look at your car when I meet up with your for the grounding? That guy wasn't trying to sell me anything leh, just said no need to wrap up. Could you tell me where Res-Air is? Anywhere near City, Bt. Merah or the West that I can buy the insulation tube? Really hope to make my air-con cooler and more efficient. Now, wouldn't that mean that there will be some savings in fuel consumption, however little that might be?

Michel Neutral Newbie March 16, 2003 Share March 16, 2003 Cool, those insulation tube that you mentioned and/or, is the material the sponge type or the 'areotape' type? Thanks.
Mojoe Neutral Newbie March 17, 2003 Share March 17, 2003 Looks like we share a lot of common stuff... my Laser doesn't come with wrapped air-con pipes as well, but I wrapped it... not sure whether helps in making air-con colder or not though.. it got colder after Cool did the grounding for me But I guessed it's no harm... Cool Neutral Newbie March 17, 2003 Share March 17, 2003 OF course Aerotape type.. nothing else less I will settle for...
Flaser Neutral Newbie March 18, 2003 Author Share March 18, 2003 Oops did I buy the wrong stuff? The brand is Aero something but the material is spongy type leh? It costs only $1.50 per tube of 6 ft. But whatever the case, it already made a lot of difference, especially over the last 2 days, which was extremely hot . The air-con was much faster in cooling down and was significantly cooler too. For the first time, the air con actually felt Cold on a hot day rather than just Cool. This is the best few dollars I ever spent on my car! Regretted not wrapping them up earlier. Hope that others would get the same positive results that I have. Maybe it'll turn into a freezer when Cool does the grounding for me!
Cool Neutral Newbie March 18, 2003 Share March 18, 2003 Have you sorted out the stalling problem ??
Flaser Neutral Newbie March 18, 2003 Author Share March 18, 2003 Yes I believe so. The last 2 days have been so hot, one of the important ingredient for the stalling problem to happen, but it didn't. I believe Regent Motors have rectified the fault. This also means I'm ready for the grounding! Shall I arrange for the grounding over PM?
Dreammetal Neutral Newbie March 18, 2003 Share March 18, 2003 ur baby photo so cute.. =p
Flaser Neutral Newbie March 18, 2003 Author Share March 18, 2003 Thanks for the compliments DreamMetal! Attached is another one of my favourite photo of her. Back to the air-con. Can anyone advise if I need to now wrap the tubes with any heat-resistant tapes? I was afraid that the foam-like material will melt under the intense heat in the engine bay, but so far it has not happened.
Michel Neutral Newbie March 18, 2003 Share March 18, 2003 (edited) Flaser, Apart from Aerotape, there's another brand called 'insulflex'. They are both of almost similar material. That's another alternative you can look at. Darn cute...that kid of yours. Look more after her mum or you, huh? Flaser Neutral Newbie March 19, 2003 Author Share March 19, 2003 Thanks Michel! After checking on the net, I realised I am using AeroFlex (the foam tube) instead of AeroTape. It's much easier to install I suppose since I just need to cut the tube and fit it over the pipe, rather than use the tape and slowly go round and round and round As for my girl, most ppl says she takes after my wife. Michel Neutral Newbie March 19, 2003 Share March 19, 2003 All this talk about wrapping the pipe is really tempting... Think it's my turn to get that done too...
Andrewkb Neutral Newbie March 19, 2003 Share March 19, 2003 Problem is, when you use AeroTape, you can't go round and round ... as space is limited (at least for my case) ... so I gotta cut into ~10cm and tape one to two round, and repeat this process :-( Tedious but fit tightly. Andrewkb Neutral Newbie March 20, 2003 Share March 20, 2003 Attached is a picture of my insulated air con pipe :-P I used Aerotape then covered with aluminium foil (those tape type).
Flaser Neutral Newbie March 20, 2003 Author Share March 20, 2003 Cool! But it kind of make the pipe really "stand out". Interesting that the air-con pipes were designed to run over the engine like that. What were the engineers thinking?
Andrewkb Neutral Newbie March 20, 2003 Share March 20, 2003 The engineer must have forgotten abt the air con pipe until last min then ... OOPS ! WE FORGOT THE AIRCON !... so anyhow run it across .. Like I said, the space is really limited, so the Aerotape is very very difficult to wrap .. thus you see the ugly-ness of the work :-P On other cars, e.g. the Hyundai Sonota H-matic .. the aircon pipe skirts the engine bay, so no so much direct heat is picked up along the way. ↡ Advertisement
