Miketow Neutral Newbie June 5, 2006 Share June 5, 2006 Ive not waxed/detailed for a long time - When I used to do it on a weekly basis many years ago, I always used my trusted/cheap KIT Carnuba Wax (Paste). It was so simple...apply whole car, dries and wipe of in a circular motion, immediately a brilliant shine waits underneath the dried paste. I could wax a whole car in 30 minutes! PRESENT 2006: I decided to try waxing again and decided to buy Meguairs #7 Professional Gloss (or something like that). Following the instructions to apply one section at a time and wiping off - it was a nightmare. When I wiped it..it was still wet..so I kept swirling over the same spot...and b/c it was wet..the detailing cloth also was moist ..so kept changing to a drier portion of the cloth and continued buffing...I had to do this for 5 whole minutes..over the SAME spot before there was a shine! - and even then there were dozens of residue "wax spots" on the polished portion that required heavy buffing to remove!! Just doing the bonnet took me 1.5 hours plus..and a hand that felt like it was gonna fall off!! Surely this is not normal!! Are other brands the same?? Or should I just switch back to good old KIT Carnuba Paste? Thanks for any imput guys! ↡ Advertisement
Dipstick Neutral Newbie June 5, 2006 Share June 5, 2006 (edited) You must apply only a very thin layer then wait for it to dry before buffing off. To test if the wax is ready for buffing, run your finger tip on the waxed surface. If the wax comes off easily, then it is ready for buffing. I have used Meguiars Colorx, NXT tech Wax and NXT Spray Wax... no problems. Edited June 5, 2006 by Dipstick
Benji Neutral Newbie June 5, 2006 Share June 5, 2006 wah bro... wat a nightmare... i'm too lazy for polishing... i just send my car for paint-protection-coating... then, whenever my car's kena bird-sai, i just make it a point to clean it off... it's expensive but saved time poilshing my car every week... just my humble opinion... Miketow Neutral Newbie June 5, 2006 Author Share June 5, 2006 Thanks for the reply The instructions on the bottle stressed that "should not allow product to dry". Besides..by the time I moved from the first spot to the second already more then 5- 10 minutes..so should be quite dry even so...yet...the entire hour..any spot was moist.and buffing was like swirling a gravy around... Ahbengdriver 6th Gear June 5, 2006 Share June 5, 2006 I just bot a new Meguiars spray wax from carrefour. This one used inbetween my 2 monthly paint protection treatment to 'restore' shine. I just did it yesterday and woo-la...SHINE ! u only spray a little bit and then spread it, and leave it dry. buff with MF cloth.....done! I think the NXT wax for super shine wld be even better. will try next
Dipstick Neutral Newbie June 5, 2006 Share June 5, 2006 You might have applied too much of the product. Try removing it with a wet cloth. Just a suggestion as I have never used that product before. Good Luck.
Dipstick Neutral Newbie June 5, 2006 Share June 5, 2006 I love that spray wax and I use it on a weekly basis after a wash. So easy to use
Rontheman Neutral Newbie June 5, 2006 Share June 5, 2006 #7 is not a wax per se, but more of a polish/glaze. Use small amount and shake bottle before use. Make sure to apply it in a cool place. If you are looking for wax/sealant in Meguairs line, you might want to consider #16, #21 or #26.
Gen2 Neutral Newbie June 5, 2006 Share June 5, 2006 (edited) Hi bro Meguiar's #7 Showcar Glaze is a glaze product and usually not used as a LSP. You got to apply it very thin and buff off before the glaze dry up. Sometime you tend to have problem buffing off #7 due to the rich trade secret oil in it, so what you can do is, apply it to a panel, let it haze (not dry) than buff off. Than move on to the next panel and while waiting for the glaze to haze, give the previous panel another wipe with a clean MF towel and than start to buff out the new panel you just did. Repeat this procedure and you should get better result with #7 but remember to apply it THIN. I would recommand you to top #7 with a layer of wax/sealant for better shine and protection. Mzrmazda3 6th Gear June 5, 2006 Share June 5, 2006 Kit Carnuba Paste Wax is even though it is not as branded as Autoglym, Meguiars, Mother's ... etc I have used it before on my previous rides and the end result is Can't comment on the Meguiars #7 as i'm on Meguiars NXT Paste Wax and OCW But so far, i have no issues with them on the buffing part except that for paste wax, it does sometimes leave some wax spots which needs slightly heavier buffering Maybe it's because i have applied too much on that spot
Civicmind Neutral Newbie June 5, 2006 Share June 5, 2006 Hi Miketow May I know where did you get #7? Available in market currently is #5 which is more suitable to our climate. FYI this is not a wax as you thought. #7 should be applied thinly (probably smaller that our 1cent coin)and spread it. Immediately follow by buffing with MF. Since it is a glaze (polish) you will fill bit oily. This is similar to other polishes by Meguiars. Once this is done, follow up with a wax NXT or others. Just sharing ! Miketow Neutral Newbie June 5, 2006 Author Share June 5, 2006 Thanks for the great input guys! Im learning alot today! So it seems that #7 is a polish with lots of rich oils in it - so like the bros here advised - thin layer and expect oiliness. I must say the shine after the horrible buffing is quite amazing - but the work is just too much So im goona switch a good wax and be happy with it, since my car is brand new - I dont know if I should be using a polish...(should I?) Btw CivicMinded, the #7 - I got from Autobacs. Cheers!
Civicmind Neutral Newbie June 5, 2006 Share June 5, 2006 No harm to continue with the #7, however you need to apply wax on top of it. With out warm, humid and frequent rain, it wouldn't be long before the polish gone. Thanks for the info.
Muakmuak Clutched June 5, 2006 Share June 5, 2006 bro, are you still using NXT wif OCW? thought they are not complimenting pdts as they are different elements in them? i gave up after a few attempt as it is casing streaks on the paint surface after i worked my guts out. really heart pain to see streaks and too tired to buff them off hard at the end. just my tots..
