WTB Getz 1.1M or 1.6M??

I just purchased a 1.6M Getz, so thought I'd share my thoughts.

I test drove the following:

1.1M Getz

1.4A Getz

1.6M Getz

1.4M Verna

The price difference for me is marginal between the models above. By this, I mean the price, insurance and also road tax. I'm paying approx $100 more per year for the 2-door Getz. And the price diff is because of the capacity (1.6 vs 1.1).

The Getz is very fun to drive. Very zippy, even the 1.1, because the gearing ratio for the 1.1 is tuned quite well. For day to day and town driving, it's great. But the 1.6M is even more fun because it has a much more balanced power to weight ratio.

Downside of the 1.6M is the 2 door. Inconvenient for rear passengers, so not very practical. Then again, if you want practicality, Verna is a better choice as its got a boot. Personally I don't think the price difference between 1.1 and 1.6 warrants much consideration because it is quite marginal.

If practicality is not an issue, my suggestion is 1.6M. If you visit GetzClub, there's a posting about regrets. There are owners who regretted getting the 1.4A instead of the 1.6M.

if the 1.1 is zippy le, so i guess ur 1.6 must be really good?

what u getting for ur FC?

actually if u have a family, get the 4 door.. if it's not for family use, den go ahead with the 2 door lo..

i'm sure u didnt regret getting the 1.6M rite? though it's a 3 door..

Whats the "Getz Fever" like?

Is that the reason why there are so many Getz drivers who think they are driving sports cars?

The Getz 1.1 is zippy in terms of pick-up/acceleration. That's because the gearing is high, i.e. say on 1st gear at 2000rpm, Getz 1.1 will be 10kmh while Getz 1.6 will be 15kmh (figures are for illustration only). So it's pretty zippy round town with stop-go traffic.

For the 1.6, the acceleration from standstill is only very slightly better than the 1.1. But when the you accelerate say from 60kmh, that's when you really feel the 1.6 engine difference.

The 2-door is troublesome but no choice. For 5-door, must get auto, which removes a lot of the fun factor. So I sacrificed practicality for a fun. If a practical car is what you're looking for, do consider getting one with a boot. The Getz boot is really tiny. If baby seats, golf bag etc need to be carried, do look elsewhere (unless you never ferry passengers and can have the rear seats folded down frequently).

Fuel consumption I don't know. I just got my car, so even if I gave a figure, it will not be accurate as it's not run in. From what I read, it should be 12 - 13km/l or so.

When I purchased my car, I also got to testdrive the Zippi (Getz sports model). With 17" rims and lowered suspension, it was a great car to drive (handling wise).

Don't get me wrong, the Getz is a fun car to drive, but it's far from a performance car. But at the price bracket and other factors that I was looking at, I couldn't find a more fun car.

Btw Eddie, what rims are you running on your car. Was wondering if the Getz can take 17" comfortably, i.e. without much loss of fc, ride comfort and acceleration.

Mine are 15-inch... 16 is still ok... 17 a bit too much. Think i saw 17-inch rims on Getz and the rims cracked...

I bought 1.1M around 2 mths, in price $39.5K . [thumbsdown] Overall, the performance is quite okay, but the F.C make me [blush][smallcry][confused] . After 2mths tracking, average F.C is 13.3~13.8 km /L . 65%--highway . average speed 70km/h ~~ 100km/h .Experts, any advice for lower down my fuel usage? Thanks

Bro, pls allow me to share 2 singapura cts. U look like a first time car buyer, and sure u will be confused by contradicting views of this 1.1 vs 1.6 GETZ.

Now I would take 1 step back first even b4 I ask u other things. WHy GETZ only? Is there another car that may attract u or is it that u hv fixed yrself on this car already n only this car. Let yr options be open.

What is yr main consideration? is it price, if u hv a fixed budget then is it bcos the GETZ is the one within yr budget. if yes then forget the other models/brands.

Ok lets look at 1.1 vs 1.6. What some brudders say its true. when u go for a test drive, u have to fully load the test car with 4 persons so bring yr friends along n sit in the car. I can tell u from my own experience I went to kapo my friend when he wanted to buy a picanto 1.0L for his wife as a present. 4 of us adults including the SE sit inside the test picanto.....the car can not start off on a slope the first time. My friend had to pull handbrake and floor the throttle on 2nd attempt to go ! Now what does this mean if u get a 1.1 GETZ in same situation? Its the same. Some people think overall its still cheaper to get smaller cc cars n save on cost n fuel n such. But it depends how u use the car. if u always have a loaded car, serious I would think 1.1 is no-no bcos in the end u need to ramn the throttle down each time u move. yes u can get it to go as fast as a 1.6 but u could use more fuel in the end than a 1.6L. So do consider carefully. Long term straining of the engine is not good n yr car wont last.

And is the price difference only $2k btw 1.1 and 1.6? U shld also consider other things, such as safety. This means good brakes[very good brakes], ABS[must have lah], airbags?[its a must for me] and traction control but maybe for GETZ this is irrelevant. A car we sit in must be safe brother, dont risk yr life. There are certain things I would consider must have and the safety features I just mentioned is a must have for me, otherwise no matter how cheap or nice I wldnt get that car

Your fuel consumption of around 13km /l is very reasonable liao lah...... not much improvement can be made. The only way to cut fuel consumption is to cut 2 holes at the floor board and start running with your legs. [nod]

Mayb ur FC will improve further after u change to fully synthetic engine oil. To wat I see, ur FC is already quite good [nod]

Zippi is it the special edition Getz which has a 2 tone paintwork that looks like a Mini Cooper?
