Anyone knows of any technics to test the smoothness of the paint? Everytime after claying the feel may be smooth on a soapy surface, but when everything is dried u can start to feel tat some on the contaminants are still left out in some areas.

As I'm not too much of a perfectionist, I dont expect to achieve the whole car to be totally smooth. Tats me wink.gif

If not wrong suppose to do a small area a time so that the same intensity of effort, quality of work is consistent throughout the whole process. Oso if not mistaken if the claybar can go over the body without much resistence, then u had achieve the results. However this could also be subjected to the amount of lubricating agent and force. Too little lubricant could make u assume the area if not properly treated. To little force could oso make u assue the area is completed.

I'm still learning too, as I know I may not be too detail in certain areas thus the roughness still exist for these areas. blush.gif

Try to work on a small section at a time, this way the chances you miss certain spots is smaller.

If after another pass of clay on the same area, and it still gives that not-so-smooth feeling... then it may not be above surface contaminants, could be below surface defects (such as etchings) where you'll need to use paint cleaners to work it out.

It depands on when was the last time you apply sealant or wax to your car. If it is something like 1-2 weeks ago than I think you can just leave it as it is.

Normally I will follow claying with an application of sealant, doesn't take much time, simply spray on and buff off [:)] .

Since you don do much maintenance previously [sly] , than I suggest you pick u a paint cleaner to complete the process,

wash -> clay -> wash -> paint cleaner -> sealant

If ease of use is your concern than I got to recommand you Jeffs Werkstatt Acrylic Jett/Trigger, it is a pure acrylic sealnt, very easy to use and give excellent results. You can refer to the link below for details,

Don worry bro, Prime is very easy to use if you know the proper method and it is designed more for hand application, so pretty hand application friendly.

Remember that paint cleaners are not wipe-on-wipe-off products. You've got to work it in with a few passes and some pressure. Otherwise, it will not work as you'd expect. Try to use stuff that are non-abrasive as you wouldn't want to leave more scratches onto the finish than it already has.
