Genie47 1st Gear July 30, 2006 Share July 30, 2006 Optra and Aveo quite dead to engine mods. Forget it. That VGIS is the bottleneck. Just like MIVEC is the bottleneck for MMC cars. I would say work more on suspension. Get lowering springs and I think the Optra is fine and dandy. ↡ Advertisement
Dumb 4th Gear July 30, 2006 Share July 30, 2006 Hi, I want to share my experiences with my AVEO'S 30,000km servicing. I paid $10/- to the mechanic at Caltex petrol station in Upper Thomson Road, next to the Shell and Esso Stations. I bought my own oil (some Arab brand, 5w-40)from Song Yi and I got a free oil filter for $55/- . I also brought my own air filter. I bought Japanese Nissan spark plugs from a spare part shop in Upper Weld Road. I needed to change my brake fluid as stated in the owners manual. He drained my brake fuild for $38/- using his own DOT 4. In all, I paid $48/- and I got 10 manual car wash vouchers for free. I only waited no more than 40 minutes!. U spent $48 only? What about the cost of your engine oil and spark plugs and air filter?
Kallang Neutral Newbie August 1, 2006 Share August 1, 2006 Hi Genie. Sorry I am new to this forum and would appreciate if you could briefly explained what's the benefits lowering the springs. As mine optra will be reaching its 3rd year, it's about time to change some stuffs. My air con compressor is one of them. Soon, comes the absorbers and etc etc. A typical 3-year life spans for Japs/Korean cars - in my opinion.

Genie47 1st Gear August 1, 2006 Share August 1, 2006 You get better cornering ability but the trade off is that you will definitely get a much harsher ride. You will feel every bump on the road. If you are not the type who attacks corners, don't get lowering springs.
Kallang Neutral Newbie August 1, 2006 Share August 1, 2006 Hi Genie. Thanks for the info. Unfortunately, I do not attack corners. I am looking more to prolong my ride, reducing consumption (of course best to keep the car at home)..........and once the time is up I will most definitely scrap the optra. I had enough of SH*T. Cbx750p 1st Gear August 3, 2006 Share August 3, 2006 (edited) <<....but my boot already so small >> Excuse me but your boot so small ??? Your solution, to compensate for a small boot is to get a big TOP ! No, not what your thinking ! Get a roof rack and a travel box ! Had the same problem on my Corsa previously but resolved with a big top. Then you can put the "bomb" in your boot and your bags in your top ! Genie47 1st Gear August 4, 2006 Share August 4, 2006 At least she got the option. The HB has the roof rack. The sedan cannot fit the HB's roof rack.

Fast change don't mean good also btw. oil/atf drain takes time. using of wrong DOT for brake fluid could shorten lifespan of system. Genie47 1st Gear August 4, 2006 Share August 4, 2006 Got my stuff from Aik Hoe. Seems like the Chevy filters are made from this Korean company called Sewon. The oil filter I got is the original. Sewon made it. The brand is called Sefil. My air filter is also from Sewon. Haven't got the A/C filter yet but I believe it is also from Sewon. I got the rear drum shoes because I know mine is fast wearing out. They are from Sangsin. They have this trademark name called HiQ.
