Cavili Neutral Newbie April 24, 2006 Share April 24, 2006 Read an article on Web, it said 5W20 qood pumpability in cold weather but increase mechanical wear because too thin the oil. Although it does not shear as much as 5W30 oil but when engine reaches the ambient temperature and it's vicosity will begin to thin out resulting in less protection. Some oil are added with moly to prevent frition and thinner oil has less resistance in engine that deliver better fuel consumption. But thicker oil will give you better protection, So which to choose, better milage or better protection. ↡ Advertisement

Genie47 1st Gear April 24, 2006 Share April 24, 2006 Engine protection from oil is not about thick or thin. It is about oil pressure. Oil pressure doesn't really mean oil pressure. Because oil flow cannot be measured in an engine, it is indirectly measured as oil pressure. High oil pressure doesn't really mean high oil flow. It might mean something clogged up. Like constipation. Look at your application before selecting a grade. If it is driving in Singapore. 5W20 is good. Fast flow at ambient temperature. Nice 20wt viscosity at operating. Most trips don't last long and most speeds don't make your engine temperature soar. Engine runs cooler. If for some reason you planned a vacation to Malaysia and want to donate to their impoverished police force, use a 10W30. If you for some reason obtained a permit to tow your luxury yacht to the marina every weekend, use a 5W40. Application counts if you have a new car. Pisces69 6th Gear April 26, 2006 Share April 26, 2006 If you for some reason obtained a permit to tow your luxury yacht to the marina every weekend, use a 5W40. ===================================== Hi Genie. I'm using a 5w40 oil but mine is an old car. Is it still OK to tow my luxury yacht to the marina? If so, can I park the yacht at the MSCP till the weekends? How to apply for the season parking? Got no log card leh? Now where got good offer on luxury yacht Must go & check out the Boat show. Must remember to get my Pleasure craft lisence asap. Wah, one post here make me so busy already. Like this I very excited today.
Genie47 1st Gear April 26, 2006 Share April 26, 2006 Yours old car of course use 5W40 lah! However, if there are not consumption issues, I believe the move to 10W30 will be tempting you soon.
Pisces69 6th Gear April 26, 2006 Share April 26, 2006 No No. I asking if it can tow a luxury yacht or not. I want to buy 1 leh. But cannot afford to park at marina so want to park at MSCP. Only $75/month. I think if I use 30wt oil, sure my car die b4 the coe expire in 3 years time.
