Edrollbrick Neutral Newbie April 23, 2006 Share April 23, 2006 If more than 60% start and stop driving maybe should not stretch to 10k or 15k. Also our humidity will tend to degrade the Oil synthetic or mineral. I tend to agree 8K or 6 months is better, worst case 10k or 10months if not too much start/stop driving. ↡ Advertisement
Pisces69 6th Gear April 23, 2006 Share April 23, 2006 Of course. It all boils down to personal choice & your cost threshold. If u prefer to change engine oil every 3K km, ATF every 10K km, timing belt every 50K km, etc etc etc, it's your personal choice. But if u work in a company & r in charge of the regular maintenence of a generator for eg. & the servicing interval is say 100 hrs running time & u get it serviced every 50 hrs running time, your boss is not going to b too happy with you. So as I said, it's up to the individual to decide but usually it's the one who pays for it that has the final say. Unless you got so much $$$ u dunno where to spend it, then maybe u can call me & I can help u out there. Just kidding bro. Cheers.
Jiayong 3rd Gear April 23, 2006 Share April 23, 2006 MAybe some owners touch the red zone frequently. And they intend to keep their car for long, more than 10 years kind. So want to protect the engine as much as possible. To be honest, 5K servicing with cxxxxxe is not too bad. Oil = $26.90 filter = $3 labour = $5 Not too bad mah...then spark plugs change at 10 k lorr..

Genie47 1st Gear April 23, 2006 Share April 23, 2006 (edited) That is done by mkl22. He was driving the Toyota G9 then. The TBN of 4 after 5k is still OK actually. The original TBN is 10 for this oil so it is really some severe service. That's the SJ version Later UOA with the Sunny by dm is better. Good healthy TBN after 10k and this is the SL version. TBN is actually up to you. If you really kiam, TBN 1 then drain the oil also OK but some people will feel very uncomfortable with it. I would say any oil can tackle 10k km w/o breaking a sweat even normal mineral oil. I used Citgo Supergard 10W30 for 10k and the TBN was 2.89! It is not scary. It is just OK because TBN of 2 is where I would call it quits. Normal PCMO has TBN of 7-8. Amsoil usually have 10! Genie47 1st Gear April 23, 2006 Share April 23, 2006 Cannot say that people got too much money to spend. Some people got loads of money but don't want to spend like DollarDex CEO or Ikea founder and the local Ikea CEO. You must admit some people actually like to spend money! It doesn't matter if you are rich or middle class, some people just like to spend money! Why do you think the snake oil sellers, oil majors touting the superiority of high octane petrol and bodykit and GT wing makers get their money from? From people who like to spend money! Genie47 1st Gear April 23, 2006 Share April 23, 2006 You think that is bad. Sunny, Latio and Protoge got 2.7L sumps (3qt) and their engines are 1.6L! Linus and so many others also going 10k OCI. Your Swift can make it to 10k OCI easily.

Genie47 1st Gear April 23, 2006 Share April 23, 2006 Might be true! Have a lady car owner, you will find that: 1. They fill it up with synthetic oil for their style of driving. 2. Use 98 octane when their car specs for 95. 3. Sends the car to the stealers for fear of losing the warranty or just that she can go have a cup of expensive cappucino from Olio. Won't be surprised if there are many men owners who like to spend money just like them! ↡ Advertisement
