Vidz 6th Gear April 18, 2006 Share April 18, 2006 cos they will loss lotssa of revenue from tax... both directly and indirectly from company tax of oil companies... In addition, relevent agencies are too complacent or ignorant about the devlopment of newer technologies... not forgoting red-tapes... Koolaba 1st Gear April 18, 2006 Author Share April 18, 2006 If I have not recalled wrongly, Bosch SEA once brought in a few units of Mercedes E220 CDI and VW Touareg TDI for NEA and LTA to evaluate. Most importantly, it is to shed the antique image that diesel powered vehicles are dirty and smelly. On the contrary, diesel powered vehicles fulfilling the Euro 4 emission standards put out less COx emissions compared to the petrol driven vehicles. Biodiesel, which can be obtained from plants, can be used to power these vehicles. Thereby it reduces our dependence on fossil fuels. It really puzzles me too, why punitive taxes are implemented on diesel cars used as private vehicles and why the green incentives are applicable to hybrid cars which are still relying on petrol as propellant. Koolaba 1st Gear April 18, 2006 Author Share April 18, 2006 Not forgetting diesel engines unleash more torque at lower rpms albeit the power band is smaller compared to petrol engines. In our stop and go driving condition, I value torque more than power. After all, why do we need so much power even under the legal speed limits of 110km/h on Malaysian highways? Bentwy Neutral Newbie April 18, 2006 Share April 18, 2006 Errr... because we're the world's second largest petroleum refinery??? Our gahmen is very pragmatic - they will not feed a hand that will end up biting them - financially. Well. we can bitch all we went here. but in the end we are the ones that votes them in (at least some of us) - for the same pragmatic issues.

Boyboy 1st Gear April 18, 2006 Share April 18, 2006 What is your ride? My kangoo's record was 900+ on 40 something liter. forgot the exact figure, but when i took the first and divided by the second, i remember this figure.. 19.8km/l Now I average about 17+ to 18+ km/l, cos I use aircon more often but still pretty decent FC for a 1.9 liter. But pickup (after about 50km/h) and top speed is really .

Boyboy 1st Gear April 18, 2006 Share April 18, 2006 It really puzzles me too, why punitive taxes are implemented on diesel cars used as private vehicles and why the green incentives are applicable to hybrid cars which are still relying on petrol as propellant. Talking about the green incentives, it is still too insignificant to make the majority of car owners switch to hybrid. This shows that the petrol tax probably too valuable for them to pass up on. If they so clean and green, they should make it worth the while for the typical singaporean motorist to afford. considering that the technology is still not as proven as conventional cars
