Jusnel 6th Gear May 28, 2006 Share May 28, 2006 yeah la.... it would be good if we adopt it long ago... but it's a very touchy issue coz of the petrol companies here. garment cant just drop a bomb to implement hybrid and other alternative fuel w/o discussing it with the petrol companies. garment cant afford to offend these petrol companies, and also it will hurt the petrol taxes garment is earning......... ↡ Advertisement
Jusnel 6th Gear May 28, 2006 Share May 28, 2006 I was actually looking at getting the Honda Civic Hybrid. However, at approx. S$80K, the Civic Hybrid will not have some of the following features found in the normal petrol versions of the 1.8 VTi-S and 2.0 SI versions : - No HID - No factory fitted leather seats - No paddle shift controls on the steering wheel As such, I'm waiting for the actual car to arrive and check it out at the showroom before committing. if i were you, i dun wan to be the 1st batch of owners. let other ppl buy and drive first. then listen to their whatever compliants first..... plus all the tricks that the stealerships are pulling on these hybrid cars... Watwheels Supersonic May 28, 2006 Share May 28, 2006 Just like what Jusnel had mentioned it is not advisable to get any hybrids as this technology is still new for mass produced cars. Mechanics from dealers might not be well trained in hybrids. It's a big risk...for now. U may have a slightest problem popping out from ur hybrid car but without a well trained & experienced mechanic ur problem will not go away. No matter how much more the OMV is worth or how long the warranty the dealers can give u, if there's no one to solve ur problem when problems start to rise it is just not worth the trouble. I know u want to save on ur petrol bills on the long run but reliability is a big unknown. I may be wrong. Maybe u'll get one which is reliable but i think it's a big risk u have to take. Ronnie Neutral Newbie June 6, 2006 Share June 6, 2006 (edited) agree with jusnel, usually any new models first batch will have all the problems... you don't even need to consider the possibility of outside workshop mechanics unable to handle hybrid cars... even the 'stealership' workshops mechanics competentcy is questionable. how many out there didn't go back to the official workshop for servicing even if cost wasnt the issue? when it comes to warrenty claims, the normal petrol cars already so headache... i can't imagine hybrid ones... maybe they'll tell you that your steering rack is 2x the cost of a normal one coz your hybrid is 'special' what can you do about it? as for the govt direction, as far as the NEA is concerned, the rebate isnt really going to help you save the cost of getting a hybrid.... it is just making the hybrid more 'reachable' amongst the other petrol driven cars. essentially, from what i see, the choice of consumers are that buying the hybrid is to save the environment and not to save their own pocket. currently CNG is cheap because there's no tax for it yet. i wouldn't bet on it when they start taxing it when the demand for CNG goes up. given the current state of petrol and car prices .... i still think just getting a damn cheap car (approx $40k) and be on your way around singapore.. and saving the rest of the $40000 you saved for mods, petrol *OR* another car. Tanjk Neutral Newbie June 7, 2006 Share June 7, 2006 You know why? Because voting doesn't cost you any $$$. Cars on the road cost you $$$. And Toyota cars are always cheaper than Honda cars. A lot would also have voted the Civic and drive an Altis, for example. Regards, JK

Tanjkp Clutched January 21, 2007 Share January 21, 2007 Sorry for digging up an old thread... Saw on the newspaper today about the Honda Civic Hybrid 1.3L selling at ~$68k... With advertised fuel economy of 21KM/L... Any bros with feedback is welcome... I may not be a user of hybrid, but have been looking and reading those users' comment of it. For pricing the Honda is one to go for. But for real good FC, Prius is the one. Honda claimed to have the FC as what factory tested. But the way Honda hybrid run on specially stop go type traffic is using a lot of petrol engine power to drive thus will not show FC even near to 17-18 K/L. Prius used a lot on the electric motor, so it will give better FC.

Dualie Clutched January 21, 2007 Share January 21, 2007 I've the latest pricelist from KM. Indicate Civic Hybrid is $75k. Same as a Civic 1.8...
Wintersonata Clutched January 22, 2007 Share January 22, 2007 Damn, newspaper advertising cannot trust man... Put $68k++ But the hybrid register as 1.3L right? Cat A car with slightly cheaper roadtax and better fuel economy than Civic 1.8L. Think this car will appeal to younger working class with cost savings in mind but wanna to have a more sportier looking car... Since petrol prices can only go north...
