Yc86 Clutched April 14, 2006 Share April 14, 2006 if the slope is steep, car will roll back in D too... no problem just step on brakes, no need to pull handbrake
Boyboy 1st Gear April 14, 2006 Share April 14, 2006 Try putting the auto trans in "2". Driving school taught this and it worked on their civic VTI. In school that is. Tried on dad's camry and it doesn't really work on steeper slopes. still must use footbrake.
Lucien Neutral Newbie April 14, 2006 Share April 14, 2006 Simply speaking, D when no gas is step is only enough strength as a half clutched gear 1. Even for manual a half clutch will roll back easily. so if u want to maintain the position without stepping brakes, u can try to ease a bit on the gas, u can feel the car surge to move up but is not powerful enough to move foward. Kklee 6th Gear April 15, 2006 Share April 15, 2006 Should be normal especially for autogear cars that are heavier. Experienced the same thing on my relative heavier Chevrolet Optra while exiting Tampines Mall carpark yesterday afternoon. Engaged a lower gear "2" and that manage to keep the car stationary. I was on manual gear previously, so this is something new. While at gear "D", because of the rolling back, was tempted to step on the gas slightly wihch will keep the car stationary. However, read somewhere that "half-clutch" using the autogear is a NO-NO and would damange the autogear box.

Atlantis_boi Clutched April 16, 2006 Share April 16, 2006 Am driving the same car as u. I itnk it's nt advisable to do so cos u might burn out the auto gearbox with the car stationary. But sometimes I stil do so forz a few secs of time like insert cashcard into the barrier ticketing machine. ↡ Advertisement
