HANKOOK RS-2

Just changed mine today. 225/45/17 on Conti car.

Previously on Eagle F1 GSD3.

Noise level is high.

Dry grip is not bad,

Wet grip, F1 outperforms RS2.

but then again its new. will have to see after 500-1000km.

I suspect it will be noisier than F1s.

Compound feels soft, just as comfortable as F1.

The mech/tech said it can last me 50k km but I doubt it. if I can do 40k km I will be very very happy.

Will update if I can.

thanks

Hi bro, can check if the dry grip is better than eagle F1? I do find eagle F1 only having above average dry grip, not those AD07 levels

But F1's my favourite tire, being both quiet and comfortable with excellent wet traction and street level dry grip!

For dry weather grip, I agree with you that F1s are only above average. My (previous)front tires didn't even have 20% left and it began to oversteer in the dry. Surprisingly in wet, it still cuts through water puddles pretty well even though its on its last mm or so! There you go, wet weather performance at its best. F1s are very value for money, above ave dry, great wet, poor - decent wear rate.

The RS2 dry grip is not bad. Haven't pushed it round the corners hard though even though its quite comfortable. Once the "euphoria" of new tires are over, I think you'll get a more objective view from me [laugh]. But seriously, its only done 15km, let me do 500km before really giving it a report, and thats just 2-3 days away only [;)]

I don't really think that the F1s are quiet, but they are comfortable. The RS2s are of the similar noise level (brand new, its most likely to be noisier when scrubbed), so if you are ok with the noise, the RS2 isn't going to bother you much if at all in this aspect.

If you've compared their steering characteristics to S03s, you'll find that the F1s are not as accurate. But needless to say, I do love the F1s, just that I am trying out the RS2s as an alternative for now. It just rained here and I'll just take the car out for a spin (not literally [:p] ) and I'll get back to you. Its not going to be accurate (Again!) cause its still brand new, but at least we'll all have some kind of feedback.

I have just pushed the tires a bit more today. Its definitely better than F1s in the dry, but not as good in the wet, though the wet characteristics are more predictable.

In the wet when cornering hard, you'll notice a slight drift, but nothing uncontrollable if you lift off the pedal. Whereas on the F1s, it tends to grip fantastically and then lose a bit of bite, drifts, and then rebites, catching the line again. thrilling, but not predictable.

Price to performance, I feel that it is on par with F1s. But with better dry grip.

point to note, I am driving a 1.5 tonne FWD car on 225/45/17s so its going to be different if you use it on a lighter jap car or different rims.

I have tried ADO7s on a BMW, and they are fantastic gripping in the dry, but with aquaplaning tendancies in the wet. The set up on the BM is lower and more aggressive than mine, but to say that RS2s are better, I really have got to give it a go in the corners.

Lovely review bro!

RS2s are used in the recent sepang race and there are many favourable reviews on them.. glad to know they work just as well for street cars

I have previously used aspec db and pilot preceda before changing to the F1. I can say it is as quiet as pilot preceda, which is only slightly noisier than the terrible aspec.

There aren't many tires that are quieter that i know of.. perhaps the hankook V8 and bridgestone gr-80

I would think the RS2s are really capable dry tires, and will take bends noticibly better than your old F1s.

Have fun with the tires man!

Thanks! I'll see if I can post something after 500km to have a more accurate review.

I tried throwing the car into corners and it sticks well. Again, it has a semi-drift type of feel, not unlike ADO7s, controllable. Don't ask me how fast I threw it in the corner [laugh][crazy]

Neutral Newbie

Like the way you write up your reviews and let me understand more on this RS2.

Just changed from AD07 to F1 and I do agree with you that AD07 got fantastic gripping in the dry but F1 just slightly below AD07 cause I tried a highway bend at speed 100km and feels it still not bad base on my expectation. For wet I also give the credit to F1 cause it really push the water well and still in line in the bend I took.

Overall I still prefer F1 than AD07.

Thanks for your compliments. I think is because I have read quite a few reviews and I am writing it in a similar style.

Update, I've done just over 550km on the tires.

Was pumped up to 260Kpa. or 37psi if I am not wrong when I got the tires.

Its got pretty good grip overall. It gets noisier after the scrub in period, that's for sure. There was this thumping sound after I left the shop, which I thought was from the balancing. Went back the next day to get it rebalanced and it went away... for a while. The sound came back again recenty, and it seem to me that it might be caused by temperature difference.. I can't be sure till I monitor it again.

I like the road feel, I can actually feel it in the steering. Sharper than F1s. Unfortunately FC did go up for me. from 9km/l to 8.4km/l as compared to the F1s. I supppose its because of the difference in tire compound and tread. Semi-slick type of tires do that.

Changed the pressure to 240Kpa and it did feel slightly more comfy for the passengers at the back, but I lost a bit of steering feel, slower acceleration and higher FC than at 260kpa. I changed it back up to 255kpa front and 245kpa rear for a good balance just this morning.

To take note of my FC, I normally get 400-440km before my tank hits the refill light sign. This time, I got only 377km. For those who want performance, there is a price to pay in FC.

Hi Robert!

Yes, I did go to the one at outram. I pm'd you recently but I had a friend refer me to your shop location, thats why I didn't call you back. Thanks for your help [;)] .

I was pumping 39psi front and 37psi rear on my previous tires cause it was wearing out at the edges/sides and I wanted to have more grip from the centre of the tire.

On that note, the tech/mech there got me up to 260kpa(37psi) all round before I left the shop.

Adjusted to the what 37 Front/35 Rear Psi this morning.

Thanks :)

V8RS is in a different league from the F1s and RS2s. Its more comfortable and quiter.

RS2 and F1 is almost like an opposite of each other in terms of wet and dry performance. If rotated well, F1 will be less noisy (my opinion of course).

but RS2 is value for money if you are looking for dry performance and track tire with predictable handling.

But for 225/40R18, the RS-2 is a little too expensive :(.

The Hankook guy at Toh Guan is really helpful though.

I end up changing to Falken FK-451. A bit outdated but pretty good sticky stuff.
