Scrap body value of Starlet, XL

Dear All

 

Was at the Mackenzie Used Car centre on Sat to see a Red 1991 starlet with a remaining COE till 08/06.It is on a 5 year COE and cannot be renewed.

Asking price is $1.7k and transfer fee of $142 would be paid by the buyer.

COE rebate if scrap this month end would be $800+

 

Car interior looks ok, traces of oil at the front end of the grill where the oil filter sits, the back windscreen bears a different number to the car plate number.The engine sound looks quiet enough and aircon is cold enough.

 

The interesting thing the car dealer told me the car body is worth $600 if going to scrap.

 

Any one could advise if this is a good buy.

Went down to see that particular car last week, if you work out the depreciation on

a monthly basis it will be S$1700 / 5 mths = S$280 per month. If compare to those

selling 2011/08 EP80 selling around S$15000, which come out to be only S$227 per month.

and best still, these can renew for another 10 yrs if the car is still in good running

condition.

 

For that particular car, after 5 months, most likely will not even take that in and

you may have to pay to get it scrap.

 

For you info, i told the guy S$1K . IF he is interested to sell me. Unlikely they will call me back. hehehe

I did not call them again after checking that the car has close to RM1000 summons in malaysia.

 

You offer them $1k and they may not call you back since they say they could get $800+ COE rebate and additional $600 by selling the body to scrap car dealser.

This is where it puzzles me since all cars to be scrapped must go the scrap yard and get $30 for taxi fare.
