Air Charger Versus SuperCharger

"Air chargers are toys. Super chargers are real mods. LTA approves air chargers because they know it does not produce gains in hp. Likewise, super chargers need approval from LTA because it can help a car gain hp."

I know for a fact that Air Chargers only blow air into the engine with a DC motor. Is there a way copy the design of a supercharger or turbocharger and make it run on a powerful dc motor which compresses air into the engine?

By looks should be the same as the air charger but technically it works like a supercharger or turbocharger. Instead of using power from engine, it uses a dc motor. What will LTA classify this as?

I believe the performance gain will not be same as the original supercharger or turbocharger but it will definately be better than an air charger.

Any engineering or china copy company wana come up with such designs???

It's not that simple. Typical vacuum cleaners are capable of boosting up to 2BAR!

The trick here is not about how to make boost, but how much of it to make as well as what volume at what RPM.

Supercharger blower and turbo moves different volume of air at different rpm. So the electric charger must know how much air to move at what rpm. In addition, there must also be a bleeding valve and actuator to so that the boost can be controlled within a bracket.

there are no fixed price for SC...

got to depend on the brand and car used...

i was quoted less than $3k for my civic...its the jackson racing one...

You see even newspaper also advertise this today:

"Enhance your car BHP! Customized turbo kit (30-50bHP) from 2.9K onwards......UOB 0% Installment avail. call 98219970/92722470". So LTA approved is it?

im no expert too but i'll juz share what i know

air charger should be those small small gadget stuff u install direct at the throttle body or air intake side. i believe power gain cannot be felt.

supercharger is a different thing. it draws power straight from the crank pulley. im not sure how it really work but power gain is abt 30bhp to 40bhp i believe. the advantage of having a supercharger is at the slightest touch on the throttle, u'r off!

the reason why many conti cars uses a supercharger is becos the vehicle is very heavy.

You just said it. The pulley belt is hooked to the SC which in turn spins the impellers or blades. No lag.

TC requires exhaust to spin the impellers which takes time to spool.

The reason why contis use them is due to the larger displacement conti cars share. With larger displacement or cylinders, the engine is able to undertake the strain or load that it takes to drive the impellers.

With lower displacement or cylinders, the engine is less forgiving due to the load it has to undertake. Hence, Using TC.

Power gains are marginal be it SC or TC. Depends on tuning.

It can be cheaper. Just go to SLS buy those CPU fans, hook it to AA batts and voila ! [rolleyes]

Does it give you the following equivalent:

"Enhance your car BHP! Customized turbo kit (30-50bHP) from 2.9K onwards......UOB 0% Installment avail. call 98219970/92722470."

I would trust a customised turbo job unless I've heard good things from the workshop.

And no, it won't. I was describing how you may replicate an air charger in the budget way. [laugh]

i suspect this one is the one at Sungei Kadut...

is it???

maybe the $2.9k is not the full kit loh...

then he will say have to add this add that...then make up to $4k plus

don't make much sense leh. turbo is at exhaust muffler? [dizzy]

turbo can only mount at manifold where the exhaust flow is the strongest to propel the turbine. If mounted at the exhaust muffler, then you need to run one more pipe back to the intake?? [hur]

maybe 2.9k is for turbo and piping only.. cash and carry, self install [smash][smash]

air charger....i think u mean those by E-ram or ADM ones, driven by DC motor tat drain yer battery. [:)] Only diff is it's LTA friendly than add-on superchargers. [laugh]

The only "REAL" electric supercharger available is the Thomas Knight electric superchargers @ www.Boosthead.com . These could run from 5-20 psi & requires additional batteries( 24-36 vdc ) to run them, also costs almost same as local built low costs Turbocahrgers. But one thing don`t know whether it`s LTA friendly due to their boost levels...
