Passim 1st Gear March 23, 2006 Author Share March 23, 2006 Many Thanks in deed for the good advise. I noticed that you have changed your avatar to show a man being burned to ashes. So I cannot help but think that the danger or risk of dumping concentrated Techron into fuel tank is just like that of your avatar..caught fire while dumping Techron into tank and get burned to ashes.... ↡ Advertisement

Whitepowder Neutral Newbie March 23, 2006 Share March 23, 2006 Quote Actually, been using Caltex for some time already (from previous rides till now). No issues with performance. I use 95 for Teg, and 98 for E200K. Teg actually feels good with Caltex 95, very responsive and rev happy. I used to use Shell, but switched to Caltex since getting better discount via starcard. Used Shell95 for almost four years. switched to the Caltex 95 Techron early this week, 1 1/2 tank lia0o I think it is good. engine quieter. Observe no improvement yet. Axmeister Clutched March 23, 2006 Share March 23, 2006 My take on this is that the oil majors are having a branding war. Techron is nothing new and it's been ard in the states for a while. It's just another opportunity for Chevron to garner attention. So now Shell with its massive marketing budget is jumping into the fray just like its tacky price police thing. Bear in mind that during these branding exercises, the oil majors tend to err on the side of caution, which means they may, imho, increase the doping to improve the performance of their product. Detergent additive is basically the same thing for all brands just different manufacturers, it's just how concentrated you want it to be. Just to be different, Shell is saying they have the friction modifier. Well, they are second in line cos EM is already having the friction modifier in their 98 which is certainly cheaper than their v-power. No price reduction anytime soon guys, cos these branding exercises are costing Caltex and Shell big bucks. It's all in the mind bros just go for the best upfront value which i happen to think it's SPC 95. hate all those loyalty programs.

Blackyv Turbocharged March 24, 2006 Share March 24, 2006 im not too sure about which gives better FC but v-power is a no no for me.... i normally use esso/mobil 95 for the pass 2years, if up north, i use petronas.... last week, had this sudden urge to pump v-power so it can cleanses my engine since im back home at KL... to my horror.. my car became a drinker..... my normal usage from KL-JB (or JB-KL) is 4+ to 5 bars of my Vios meter (total 8bars) reading when on petronas or esso/mobil(SG) and i speeds most of the time (140-170+kmh) this so call "better FC" shell really gives me a shocked!!...from KL-melacca already drink 3+bars and nearing JB drop another 3+bars and i quickly pump petrol before i drive around JB... dont know is it me or my car, shell is a no no for me.. with full tank, i have never felt so worry with a short disctance like KL-JB where i have to quickly seach for petrol kiosk.... with esso/mobil or petronas, i can still drive around KL or JB for one day even after NSH before it reach ~2bars.... Kklee 6th Gear March 24, 2006 Share March 24, 2006 Not really sure about VIOS, I think it might take sometime for the ECU to get adjusted to the different grade of petrol.

Blackyv Turbocharged March 24, 2006 Share March 24, 2006 Quote Not really sure about VIOS, I think it might take sometime for the ECU to get adjusted to the different grade of petrol. maybe... infact, when i got my ride 2+yrs ago, i did tried out diff petrol to find one that match my engine and right leg....shell does not impress me at all... talking about ECU need time to adjust, i dont have huge fluctuation with pumping caltex, SPC, BP but shell shows it all obviously.... maybe their addictive doesn't work with my right leg... Genie47 1st Gear March 24, 2006 Share March 24, 2006 Yes, sad to say we don't have supermarket petrol. I like the US concept. Come into supermarket buy all kinds of stuff then fill up and go home.

Genie47 1st Gear March 24, 2006 Share March 24, 2006 NTUC Fairprice is tied up with EM to setup their convenience shops in the kiosks. Lets see if EM takes the bold move to move out of marketing petrol and let NTUC Fairprice run their kiosks. Its still their petrol or maybe not. AFAIK, the oil majors will supply the supermarket run stations to the highest bidder. There are so many in the US. Good for them. Not good for us. Wishful thinking on my part.....scrap the idea! Whitepowder Neutral Newbie March 24, 2006 Share March 24, 2006 Quote OK, I only drove a very short distance after refilling with Caltex Platinum Techron last night, i.e. the morning sprint from home to office which is about 8 or 9 KM. Somehow the car feels more lively than yesterday morning and the result is that I arrived on time this morning - yesterday I was late by 3 minutes. , it not the gas, probably you have change to a pair of heavier shoe. ↡ Advertisement
