Coolpica 4th Gear March 17, 2006 Share March 17, 2006 Ah... This is what I call smart. Just need to develop one platform but can be used on 16 products. VW must have saved quite a huge amount of money.

Tracxterem Neutral Newbie March 17, 2006 Share March 17, 2006 (edited) Very innovative of the Germans but alot of Singaporean still thinks that VW is VW , Audi is Audi, Skoda is Skoda and Seat is Seat they are not the same but even some of them agrees, they will commented that there is something sure must be different !!! and guess what those people commenting are either don't drive or driving japanese/korean cars...Damn sad till now Conti in Singapore still can't penetrate the thick skull of the majority Singaporean Conti expensive lah, conti maintenance expensive lah ,conti overheaT Lah but japanese cars very the good until accident rate is the highest... Tracxterem Neutral Newbie March 17, 2006 Share March 17, 2006 not really bro.. eventually they still will win their point of view by saying jap cars have more resale values lah.. cannot change them as the second hand dealer spoilt it all
Verve 1st Gear March 17, 2006 Share March 17, 2006 Think some models in the vw group share the same engine too like the 1.8t on the passat and the superb. think thats the trend with some car manufacturers these days eg mazda 3, focus and volvo s40 share the same platform, mondeo and the baby jag as well. Verve 1st Gear March 17, 2006 Share March 17, 2006 In terms of the local car market, buying a better car commands a handsome premium in terms of the tax and not to mention residual values as a result of factors like coe. With the exception of skoda, most of the other brands eg vw, audi would only be applicable to the more "well heeled individuals" so i think thats why you see less on the road. Conned Clutched March 17, 2006 Share March 17, 2006 (edited) You are right n the 1.8T extends to models like A4,A3,TT, GTi..but the new engines are de 2.0 FSI T.(ron98onli). VW grp ingeniuty went further than jus platforms, for instance, cetain top end Audi model like de S6/RS6 will have the Gallardo V10 engine and de Gallardo shares de quattro technology ,Lambo being part of de AUdi grp. Even de steerin wheel in de RS4 is de same as the one in de Lambourghini n so are parts like aircon switches, buttons, metering gauges//n their W16 engine in BUgatti, bentley, Rolls..mix & match..dun u jus luv it? ...mmm..soon Jap will consolidate too n dun u jus luv de EVO STI, WRX8MR,/WRX IX, Honda Altis & the Toyota Civic.. Verve 1st Gear March 17, 2006 Share March 17, 2006 Would be good i guess in some way if the japanese consolidate, on the other hand less choices already, then whichever way you go its still the same car, after a while and also what if they collude together and give honda pricing for everything ha. Spade Neutral Newbie March 17, 2006 Share March 17, 2006 I love VW... they are really good in R&D, but don't say anything about a Conti car being better than a Japanese branded one made in Thailand because the disgusting car dealers here still charge a disgusting premium for European taxis. so what if the reliability is the same? We're consumers looking at price man, especially when dealers know that SG suckers who like the Conti image are simply suckers to be had for breakfast. Bentwy Neutral Newbie March 17, 2006 Share March 17, 2006 I totally agree. Contis may be good, but are disgustingly overpriced here. even bread and butter cars cost alot.
