Grounding cables

yet another of my wiring questions.

my current grounding for my single amp system is only from amp negative output to rear seat metal, one cable 4-gauge.

i see a lot of fancy UFO-style grounding plates with octopus wires coming out of it from negative term of car battery in many cars. is that essential for ice? or for system safety?

someone wanna sell this "HKS circle earth grounding with correct length cables for direct bolt on" and it sounds like the octopus thing. not sure if it's applicable.

thanks!

not essential, good to show off if u hv chrome / CF cover for engine, stainless steel polished 4-2-1 extractor, special PE tubing for radiator, intercooler, expensive grounding kits and everything that money can buy to show off when some1 pops up his bonnet and challenge you to do same.

based on physics, how many points must a circuit be grounded? do more points affect grounding?

i have heard statements like "i grounded to so-and-so component, it increased my FC, then i ground to these correct points, FC came back to normal". i suppose that was incorrect grounding where the potential was not 0 volts.

my current wire from amp to rear seat, that's only 1 grounding point i have. there is no wire from - terminal of battery to car body. perhaps i should run one wire like this?

If your sound system is okie, I suggest you leave it alone.

When you mentioned current wire from amp to rear seat. I assume you are referring to, secure to a nut tighten onto the car body?

yup, a ground wire from amp - terminal to rear seat metal part, tied down there. that's the only ground i have. but i'm very interested to learn more about the physics behind this ground concept and why some cars require more than one cable.

could it be, in case one part of the circuit breaks off, the ground is still present in the other part?

but this can't explain why the negative car battery terminal has so many ground connections in some setups.

boss,

u askin abt groundin for ICE or groundin as a whole?

if overall grounding, that one is the UFO and octopus disc thing that is used.

if for ICE, basic grounding is same size gauge wire from ur -ve to ur chasis.

u want more groundin, ground the -ve to the alternator.. heheh..

eh headshok u takchey in NTU one, can flip flip ur textbook tell us why overall grounding need so many cables, and ICE need just 1 or 2?

taukeh, he study civil engineering lah, maybe can ask him how to make a cement mould of your car, or how to stuff steel cables through it to increase body rigidity [:p]

actually, for ICE,

the 3 main grounding pts are:

-ve to chasis

-ve to alternator

engine to chasis.

but with the same cable as the one that is feedin ur amp.. ehehh
