Vblaster_w211 2nd Gear February 25, 2006 Share February 25, 2006 (edited) Just when we thought the new series of V6 from Merc (M272) is such a great improvement over the old 3 valves/cylinder V6, they come up with a CGI version that upped the power of the CLS350 from 272 bhp to 292 hp, with lots of usable torque and very good FC! Also, torque of 310Nm at 1.5K rpm and peak of 365Nm from 3K rpm! Wow! Can't wait to see this new engine. I suspect it'll probably be launched in the E Class with the E Class Facelift end of this year. http://www.worldcarfans.com/news.cfm/count...-world-premiere BTW, tested the E280 (M272 V6 3L 231 bhp). Power delivery is very smooth, and the engine is rev happy whilst sounding nice and sweet. Fits well with the 7 G-Tronic. Koren Clutched February 25, 2006 Share February 25, 2006 wow.. must be great for city driving.. lots of low end torque..
Sturtles 6th Gear February 25, 2006 Share February 25, 2006 Now this is a good engine worthy of comparison with their key competitors I always thought 270 for a 3.5 is nowhere near the limits from one of the class leading engine makers. Must give mercedes engineers a pat on the back for this one
Sturtles 6th Gear February 25, 2006 Share February 25, 2006 The new CLS 350 CGI is designed to operate on sulphur-free unleaded premium fuel and its state-of-the-art technology gives it the potential to adapt to emissions standards of the future. I This part sounds like a potential problem.. singapore's petrol is not sulphur free... it will cause engine problems in the long run
Vblaster_w211 2nd Gear February 26, 2006 Author Share February 26, 2006 (edited) The M272 is already on par with the latest from BMW and others (Lexus GS300). They produce roughly the same bhp and torque for a given displacement (3L, 3.5L etc). Having just tried the E280, the M272 is very easy to rev and is responsive. The older V6 (E240) is a disappointment. I actually preferred the M271 Kompressor over the E240 older V6 2.6L. This new CGI engine sets them ahead.
