Accent01leo Neutral Newbie February 10, 2006 Author Share February 10, 2006 Does it include the timing belt or just the service charges? So, I just buy my own stuff and go? Any recommendation on the workshops there?
Gadgeter 2nd Gear February 13, 2006 Share February 13, 2006 it would be better if you can purchase your own timing belt and fuel filter at the stocklist and bring it down.
Accent01leo Neutral Newbie February 13, 2006 Author Share February 13, 2006 I was thinking of that too, just want to find out the 'market price' for the service. :P
Zoom99 Neutral Newbie February 13, 2006 Share February 13, 2006 Are u sure timing belt is so cheap? Maybe u r referring to the fan belt or alternator belt.
Zoom99 Neutral Newbie February 13, 2006 Share February 13, 2006 I have changed timing belt both in S'pore and Malaysia workshop b4. After some bad experience, I would advice to et the job done in S'pore. Why? In my opinion, it is a important task. If they fail to change properly (worst case), your belt will slip and whole engine would be gone. It needs overhaul(maybe $1-2k depending on damage). If poor job is done, then u will hear noise(casue by timing belt) after a week upon installation.-Do u know how troublesome to go back JB to rectify problem? Well I'm not saying that all JB workshops are sub-standard(even S'pore workshop also got black sheep). At least u can immediately go back to the S'pore workshop to demand a correction. Of course you pay another 20-30% more. Trust me, it's worth to pay more.
Dwoon 1st Gear February 13, 2006 Share February 13, 2006 How much is a timing belt change in general. I was quoted at around $700 by my workshop. Is this too ex?
Zoom99 Neutral Newbie February 13, 2006 Share February 13, 2006 Too ex. They try to con u. Below is my recommendation if yr mileage hit 80Km. - Change timing belt - Change bearing - Change alternator & fan belt If the above are changed, the total cost is ard $600+/- plus. This typical cost is a Jap 1.6l car. Btw what is your make?
Dwoon 1st Gear February 13, 2006 Share February 13, 2006 Not too sure if it includes all the others you mentioned. If it does, then its not too far away from $600. Maybe it involves more work for my 2.0 boxer engine?
Zoom99 Neutral Newbie February 13, 2006 Share February 13, 2006 I would send u a private msg.

Konspire Neutral Newbie February 16, 2006 Share February 16, 2006 i heard you can check a maintenance strips on the belt. if the strips is still visible, u don't hv to change it but if it's not visible, then it's the actual time to change it... Dwoon 1st Gear February 16, 2006 Share February 16, 2006 Forester. Btw... I heard from a colleague that I should use after market timing belt instead of stock OEM ones.... any particular brand to recommend? How much more expensive are aftermarket ones anyway.... I simply have no idea at all. Thanks.
Vtim 3rd Gear February 16, 2006 Share February 16, 2006 boxer engine have double the timing belt and also tensioner as compare to in-line engine, so best is to buy your belts and tensioner from stockist and just pay for the labour, you'll save at least $150 to $200 After market timing belt are usually slightly stronger than OEM and can last a bit longer. If your are still on stock boost, IMO, stock belt will do fine. However, I don't know where to get aftermarket for your Forrester, best is to check with the Forrester club folks ↡ Advertisement
