Bentwy Neutral Newbie February 4, 2006 Share February 4, 2006 Quote Take a look at my avatar loh. Anyway, my wife and i have driven a variety of cars (on a very frequent basis - not one-off) like the Ford Focus, Mazda3, BMW3series, Toyota LiteAce Van, Suzuki Swift, and of cos the alfa, and the colt's steering is by far the lightest and the one of the least feedback and road-feel. The "button" pedals need a little bit of getting used to too. From your driving experience, can tell your previous and current cars all happen to have stiffer steer.... most hondas and toyotas nowadays are understeered... better for the weaker armed ... will get used to it one lah... ↡ Advertisement
Orablue 1st Gear February 4, 2006 Share February 4, 2006 i think the light steering can get used to. i remember long long time ago when i was driving a g9 corolla. initially the steering was light but by the time i sold the car, i felt that it was pretty heavy. the same day i got the replacement car, i had problems turning it out of the parking lot. haha.. maybe my arms got weaker after driving the corolla. As for road feel, i'm not sure what it should really feel like. i thought if i turn steering and the car turns, its a good car. Unfortunately, i don't have the chance to compare supposedly good road feel cars and bad road feel cars side by side to really understand the differences. Quote What is the other car in the family? Vit4wd 1st Gear February 4, 2006 Share February 4, 2006 Light steering? Is the Colt Plus using electric power steering like the G9 Corolla? G9 Corolla has zero feel of the road, steering is super light - can turn steering wheel with 1 finger.
Atlantis_boi Clutched February 4, 2006 Share February 4, 2006 Quote noise? no extra charges, it's thrown in for free. heh... there r plenty of pple out there who would dig into their pocket to operate mufflers etc just to get the noise. count yourself lucky. and Open Pod filters too
Felipe 3rd Gear February 4, 2006 Share February 4, 2006 joker lah u. yr GT was designed for a very different sorta driver compared to the colt plus. i dunno if theres electric power steering in the colt plus but these kinds of steering tend to be very light and no feel. even the renault megane i tested practically had no feel. thats y i do factor this in when im getting a car. but then again, most car owners i suspect dont give a damn about road feel. Whats good for the mainstream is light steering, quiet engine, smooth gearbox etc. i suspect yr choice of 2nd car was for the four-door thingy & it shud be jap?? Spas Neutral Newbie February 4, 2006 Author Share February 4, 2006 I could steer the Colt's wheel with my pinkie.. with JUST my pinkie... When i told my friends about the Colt Plus' light steering they were saying can't be as light as (insert car with light steering here). And when i let them try they were shocked. That's how light the Colt Plus steering's like. There's ZERO roadfeel and feedback. Really. Sometimes I exert too much force in turning and the car swings a little too fast. Cos it's tooooo light. Perhaps it's built for kids or something. Maybe in some remote country, 5 year olds can legally drive. THAT'S how light it is. Really.
Spas Neutral Newbie February 4, 2006 Author Share February 4, 2006 Brother. I've test driven the Renault Megane. Steering is still heavy and has pretty ok roadfeel compared to the ultra light Colt. I've driven Focus, Mazda 3, Civics, BMW3series, Mercs, and the Lancer. All have pretty okay steering feel. You guys must really try the Colt Plus' steering lah. Really. Or issit just something wrong with the one i got.. Hmmm..
Twnll 1st Gear February 4, 2006 Share February 4, 2006 Most Jap cars have pretty light steering while conti is heavier. Just have to get used to them. I got a Honda and a Renault and got no problems with the steering, opposite sides for signals, auto vs manual, etc. The Colt plus must have been lighter than normal and I think there's nothing much that can be done about it. Unless you can find someone to look into the power assisted steering...
Falc 3rd Gear February 4, 2006 Share February 4, 2006 Havnt tried it yet. But perhaps U can upgrade your rims and even suspension to increase the road feel.

Twnll 1st Gear February 5, 2006 Share February 5, 2006 (edited) Quote Havnt tried it yet. But perhaps U can upgrade your rims and even suspension to increase the road feel. May not solve probelm as the wider tyres can possibly increase torque steer on an overly assisted power steering. Will lowering the suspension help?
