My fren is looking for one as he'll be away from his car for months from time to time.

How much am I looking at? Any good brands to recommend?

Thanks [:)]

Always go for good quality unit due to very high car cabine temp some low cost make the plastic frame will warp and the cigarette light plug is of poor fit. Look for unit where you can use rubber suckers to hang it on the windscreen.

The charging rate is very slow @ about 0.5 volt. It is designed to take care of battery drain due to prolong storage , such as battery used in stand-by generator sets, boats, cars park in port, cars left in the carpark for long period of time etc. It will not bring a flate battery back to full charge status.

VW used to attached such solar panel to thier cars which are being exported.

Currently this make and model is not available locally as it is a premiun product that the importer may find it difficult to position the product in the marketplace.. Have seen some cheap low cost unit sold in Yahoo auction

Tell your fren that can leave car with me - I start car and test drive for him once in a while! [laugh][laugh]

But seriously, if going away for a while shld either totally disconnect the car batt - or leave car with someone who can start the vehicle at least twice a week.

Be very careful not all cars battery you can disconect the battery without doing a power back up epecially european and Japanese high end cars.

Each cranking can easily drain the the battery as much as 60 amp for a few seconds unless you drive the car for more than 0.5 hr to recover the loss chances that by end of the month the battery is already near to 60% charge.
