Jeffrey 1st Gear January 31, 2006 Share January 31, 2006 I'm in the process of replacing my wife's Harrier (current model - 2003 reg) with a smaller SUV that is equipped with 4WD. In looking around, I have so far narrowed it down to 2 options - the new RAV4 from BM (PI version is with 2WD) and the new Mitsubishi Outlander (from PI, as C&C has not launched yet). Both are priced just under $90K, comes with a 2.4L engine, has realtime 4WD, and fairly large. The RAV4 looks gorgeous, whereas the Outlander has better technology and safety features, and also has the flexibility of a 3rd row (2 small seats - thus making it a compact 7 seater). Cannot make a decision, and welcome any comments/advice from bros from this Forum. Thanks. ↡ Advertisement
Sony 1st Gear January 31, 2006 Share January 31, 2006 Is the Forester also a 4wd? Both of yours are P.I, so maybe you want to wait a while if you can.
Fcw75 Hypersonic January 31, 2006 Share January 31, 2006 The RAV4 he mentioned is from Borneo Motors, not PI.
Imamiah Clutched January 31, 2006 Share January 31, 2006 juz curious, y not consider Vitara? IMO, a better bet that Outlander
Jeffrey 1st Gear January 31, 2006 Author Share January 31, 2006 Love the Forester engine and their AWD, but it looks more like a station-wagon than a SUV. Also it is not as tall as most SUVs.
Jeffrey 1st Gear January 31, 2006 Author Share January 31, 2006 Did look at the new Vitara which is attractive. However it's 4WD is full time - which means higher FC, and higher tyre wear. No offence meant, but a Suzuki has less appeal than a Toyota or a Mitsu - IMHO. Thanks anyway for the suggestion.

Sony 1st Gear January 31, 2006 Share January 31, 2006 Oh ya, a bit mis-cue on that. But been 4wd, will FC be higher? I would defintely prefer the new RAV4 compared to the previous version which is 2wd. Too bad it doesn't allow selection
Sony 1st Gear January 31, 2006 Share January 31, 2006 I do agree that it doesn't score high on the look dept, but in term of handling, it's defnitely a winner. As for height, I have not really measure it but I'm sure you are aware of the high CG with taller car. But if it's your wife, it shdn't pose much problem. Jeffrey 1st Gear January 31, 2006 Author Share January 31, 2006 Sony, thanks for suggesting the Forester. Read several very positive reviews on the 2006 Forester. Will go take a look at the 2.0L model soon.
Joshark Neutral Newbie January 31, 2006 Share January 31, 2006 Quote Love the Forester engine and their AWD, but it looks more like a station-wagon than a SUV. Also it is not as tall as most SUVs. It is actually stated StationWagon in the log card rather than suv
Guyver 1st Gear January 31, 2006 Share January 31, 2006 Yah... for Forrestor.... under insurance it is classify as Stationwagon....
Sony 1st Gear January 31, 2006 Share January 31, 2006 Only for the 2.0l hor. For the 2.5l, as it's turbo-charged, you need to make appt and they would expect you to have 50% NCD, unless you are really keen. Same as those going to try the WRX. Cheers and do let us know which one you have chosen.
Sony 1st Gear January 31, 2006 Share January 31, 2006 Erm, actually for stationwagon and SUV, is there really such a major difference? But I believe SW have more "boot" space but shorter. Can someone enlighten me on the real diff? Cheers

Marcostan 4th Gear January 31, 2006 Share January 31, 2006 Bro Jeffery, Since you own Harrier and I believed you knew the quality of TOYOTA. Beside the big drop in COE, the resale value of Toyota is always one of the best. My comments: Go for Rav4. MarcosTan Toyota Rav4
Sony 1st Gear January 31, 2006 Share January 31, 2006 So cheaper insurance for SUV or SW?
Sony 1st Gear January 31, 2006 Share January 31, 2006 Any particular reason why the others cannot be considered other than that the RAV4 is a Toyota? No preference for me yet but I think Bro Jeff would want a comparison here. But I also have strong feeling for RAV4 but the Forester win me in the performance dept.
