bro, i think better to scrap it off. 220k km of mileage i think the engine more or less need major overhaul already. and i suppose yours is the 4-Speed model right. You want to sell it away including 10yrs COE, you must do up your car nicely first. and private owners need to source for their own Finance where not much banks here will do for COE cars. Higher Interest rate also.

btw bro, hows the chrome rings? nice? [;)]

just my 2cents opinion. [:)]

PARF = 80% of OMV = $35,200

Prevailing Quota premium = $13,000

Cost to you = $48,200

Say you spend about $1,800 to do up the car and give it a new coat of paint, tyres etc, total cost to you is $50,000

You can easily make S$10,000 profit by selling it for $60,000, way below the dealer's asking price.

Worst case scenario, you sell eth car to a dealer for $55,000, you still make $5,000 profit.

ya I have to agree. With such low COE prices now, it makes you really considering if it's worth to pay just $10K+ or so to get another COE.

But the diff is that this car's PARF is a bit high.....but Benz should last a long time if you really take care of them.

My 4 year old Mazda is already 130K mileage. I cannot imagine how it'll look like when it's 10 years old. Probably ran 350K mileage liao. [smallcry]

My previous '81 Lancer also lasted me 20 yrs, so I don't see why your Mazda with newer technology cannot last you 20 years.

If you mileage is mostly highway driving, then wear and tear is minimal.

Sometimes, a high milage car with majority highway driving is better than a low mileage one with frequent short trips and cold starts.

errr....not really mostly highway driving. My driving journey to work is 1hr (1 way). All small roads. Apart from this, at night, my bro will use it to send gf home. (Very far). On weekends, I go Msia. (Very very very very far).

So far, it's been very very reliable. Almost never broke down due to an unexpected fault. But we try as much as possible to do proper maintenance ie, changing timing belt and other belts at 100K (even though I think manufacturer recommended 80K hehee). Changing gear oil, steering fluid periodically....spark plugs air filters only if I remember during alternate servicings....

I estimation is that, by 10 years, mileage will be 350K. If it's 20 years, assuming our usage is the same (or more), then it'll likely to be 700K mileage. It's unthinkable.

I've seen cars with mileage of 350K....still in reasonable shape. but really haven't seen any cars with mileage above 500K.

he is not being funny la bro. coz normally dealers take in cars, paper minus around 5% + body value.

being 5% of $44000 = $2200

+ $2000 he give u above paper value = $4200 for your car body.

Talk about mileage, wait till you see my friend's dad's 1979 Mercedes 200 which was scrapped in 2003 when it was 24 yr old - genuine 1.2 million kilometres mileage. 1 owner throughout.

Real solid car. 3 speed auto. Pick up no faster than a 1.3l auto. Dents everywhere, from front to back and both sides. The metal is thick as steel, comparable tho those 'Y' plate lorries. Use your legs to kick the solid steel bumper and your legs hurt.

Frequent trips up North till the last few years when it became problematic that they stopped doing that.

So you know how much those dealers make. Yes, they are running a business and need to make money, but this is exploiting.

If you are really keen to sell your W210 (with or without COE), I can check with a few of my friends who are looking at purchasing a COE Mercedes, and keep you posted.

I am sure you can sell for way higher than what those dealers offered you.

How many owners does your dad's car have?

Pls PM me.

Sorry, my mistake. I misread the $44K PARF as $44K OMV.

PARF = $44,000

Prevailing Quota premium = $13,000

Cost to you = $57,000

Plus add $2K to do up yuour car, cost to you is $59K.

That means if the dealers sell the car at $67K with renewed COE, they make $8K profit. A considerable sum.

ya I drove that kind of car before. mine was 1978. But we scrapped it at year 2000 when the COE expired. 4 speed manual and was already drinking petrol like a horse. After the carburretor was changed, then it was much much better.

Your friend's father must be damm rich to be able to pay for the petrol for this car.

The best thing about this car (MB123) is that the spare parts are damm cheap. Where to find brake shoes that cost $18??
