Latzu Neutral Newbie April 20, 2002 Share April 20, 2002 Just bought me a used set of rims today. Two of them have been badly corroded by brake dust. Does anyone here know where I could get them fixed? TIA. ↡ Advertisement
Turbobrick Neutral Newbie April 20, 2002 Share April 20, 2002 (edited) Try Yew Lip Spray Painting at Blk 15 Sin Ming Ind Est, 2nd shop from entrance of road. Look for Angie Soh and tell her Gavin with light green Volvo asked U to visit Last time I asked was $50 per rim. Huggable Clutched April 21, 2002 Share April 21, 2002 I'm thinking of respraying my rims also! Does the price include baking? Huggable Clutched April 21, 2002 Share April 21, 2002 corroded by brake dust? Can try to use 3M wheel cleaner to remove the dust first. Spraying will be last resort. Turbobrick Neutral Newbie April 21, 2002 Share April 21, 2002 Price is for entire job including baking and clearcoating.
Latzu Neutral Newbie April 21, 2002 Author Share April 21, 2002 Does it also include taking out the rims minus the tyres and mounting them back? If they're gonna bake it, it's got to be without the tyres?
Turbobrick Neutral Newbie April 21, 2002 Share April 21, 2002 Labor should be inclusive and they'll definitely remove the rim to paint and bake them so your car may be there for overnight.
Prozac Clutched April 21, 2002 Share April 21, 2002 possible to remove the abrasion marks and chrome it? any known cost estimate?
Turbobrick Neutral Newbie April 21, 2002 Share April 21, 2002 I don't think they do chroming. Abrasions can be removed, they'll probably prep by sand down the surface of the rim before spraying.
Prozac Clutched April 21, 2002 Share April 21, 2002 would the painted surface finish be as good as the finished shelf products? Or is the quality very much far off?
Carbine Neutral Newbie April 22, 2002 Share April 22, 2002 (edited) Where to get all these "wet" sandpaper hah? how much hah? Edited April 22, 2002 by Carbine
Turbobrick Neutral Newbie April 22, 2002 Share April 22, 2002 Finished product will be as good as new. Saw a set of rims sprayed white there a while back, looks like brand new!
Turbobrick Neutral Newbie April 22, 2002 Share April 22, 2002 ACE Hardware shop at Novena Sq or industrial parks hardware shops should have. Usually cloth base sandpaper can be used wet.
Huggable Clutched April 22, 2002 Share April 22, 2002 I'm more concerned about the preparation of the rims before painting. Do they remove the balancing weights before painting? What about cleaning of brake dust. Paisay, I'm the troublesome customer. The painter can take the easy way out by just painting over whatever dirt on the rims. I've check out this painter at AMK auto-point. $25 for just the rim face. They will spray with the rims on the car. Problem is that the painter does not do wheel jobs, you need to "loan" a set of wheels & tyres if you don't want to VOR. My ideal procedure: 1) Remove all tyres and rims, install "loan" set onto car. 2) Seperate tyres and rims, take out balancing weights, and tyre valve (don't want it to be painted) 3) Do whatever touch-up on the rims, clean it thoroughly. 4) Send clean rims to painter, ask them to paint the whole rim. 5) Drive off and wait for them to call up. After painting: 6) Collect rims, go to tyre shop to get them balanced and fixed back.
Turbobrick Neutral Newbie April 22, 2002 Share April 22, 2002 The rim face for $25? Quite a good deal, where U intend to get the loan rims? ↡ Advertisement
