FIAT STILO SCHUMACHER SPECIAL EDITION

(2005-05-13)

If Youre Going To Name Drop, You Might As Well Invoke The Name Of The Greatest Formula One Driver Of All Time. Andy Enright Takes A Look At The Stilo Schumacher Special Edition

By my rough calculations, Michael Schumacher would have to graft for approximately 46 minutes to earn the requisite folding to strut into his Fiat dealer and drive out in a Stilo Michael Schumacher special edition. The rest of us will probably have to toil a little longer if we fancy one of these three-door hatches but do the ends justify the means?

Lets face it, were it not for corporate obligations, Michael Schumacher probably wouldnt know what a Stilo was, much less be seen behind the wheel of one. For every customer who is attracted by the Schumacher branding, there will probably be two who either feel that the German is an arrogant charisma vacuum or who would be embarrassed driving a car with his name on the side, perhaps feeling it rather immodest. If this is the case, the Stilo 2.4 Abarth is a viable alternative.

I happen to quite like Michael Schumacher. Hes a stand-up family guy with some neat football skills, is pretty handy behind the wheel of a car and had the gall to pinch Heinz-Harald Frentzens girlfriend and marry her. Frentzen stood on my laptop at the 1999 Frankfurt Motor Show, so Im entitled to harbour a grudge. The car itself? Forget about the branding for a moment and its a very credible contender, cut from slightly different cloth to the rest of the warm hatch brigade.

Two Schumacher editions are available, the stock Schumacher and the racier Schumacher GP model. Available solely in Red and with just 200 right hand drive examples being built, its never going to be a common sight.

Heres the deal.

No matter how much i hated everytime my dad's old 89' Fiat Regatta overheated and gave electrical problems i still think FIAT has gone a long way with the reveal of this hot hatch. I wouldn't mind owning this stilo in the near future.

With the current COE and the talk about ARF tax removal , I think the next few month may be a good time to go into market.
