Vit4wd 1st Gear January 13, 2006 Share January 13, 2006 No offence & pardon my crude example, but the general consensus from people in the automotive industry I spoke to recommends that renewed COE Civics be avoided, esp those that comes with modifications like super broad tyres, super low profile rims, sports steering, sports gear shift, after mkt bucket seats etc. These cars have many owners, who modify it the way they like many times over. It's akin to a prostitute who's been screwed by many men and had many abortions thereafter. If you insist on buying the renewed COE SiR, be prepared to set aside S$5,000 to overhaul the engine and other minor repairs & touch ups to regain its chastity, no doubt it will never be as good as in its glory days. So_nice 6th Gear January 13, 2006 Share January 13, 2006 i spoke to the owner of the white ek4 before, the one wif aftermarket tail lights. appearently before he sold it to the dealers, he was looking for something like $22k..after S$11k coe renew, dealer looking at $46.8k! i would say tats crazy. instant profit of almost $14k even before u take the loan interest in consideration..unless u're a true lover of this car..otherwise its really bo hua. look for direct owners instead..i believe easier to neg..or look for those reg in 1997..renew coe on ur own. anyway, i noticed this particular dealer has taken in quite a few ek4s..at that kind of price, i'm waiting to see how he plans to get rid of them. Overdrive Neutral Newbie January 14, 2006 Author Share January 14, 2006 Yep, the profits the dealers want from these cars is really obscene..they can't be offering more than parf + body for the car. quite the bloodsuckers And the one you pointed out earlier @26.8k, now after 10 coe renewal is $46.8k??? Since when did the COE cost $20000....?
Kayaki Neutral Newbie January 14, 2006 Share January 14, 2006 Hi All, just a little bit on my sharing. these car why it is sold at such a high price, is due to that when these car was 1st registered, it was at 1996. 1997. thats why the COE is high. That time, all COE were super high. Once a old car has renew its COE, it will goes back to the COE at that time. but not the COE at the present time. therefore the COE is ex. and you all will think that it is nonsense for a COE at that time. But why these car is not scrap and still selling, cos the value is high in terms of paper value meaning when a buyer buys it, it will loan it high. since the based value is high, they wil earn more interest. the actual vital profit is from the loan you take up for these old car, not the car itself. C & C please.
Tarmac 3rd Gear January 14, 2006 Share January 14, 2006 Agree but notice I say most? not all.. depend on the engine also...its not easy for a 1.6litre NA engine.... but its easy for the Fairlady NA....
Tploh Clutched January 14, 2006 Share January 14, 2006 Maybe he want to contol the supply of the COE civics and command a higher price ?
Overdrive Neutral Newbie January 14, 2006 Author Share January 14, 2006 That can't be right, if the dealer renewed the coe at the 1996 46k price, then his cost would be 24k(est paid for car) + 46k = 70k!!! ...he can't possibly be selling at 26k discount right? COE is renewed at current bidded levels i would think...can anyone confirm this?
Blackyv Turbocharged January 14, 2006 Share January 14, 2006 i'm not sure did u notice, the milleage is darn low for a 10yrs old car... just slightly below 100K...it's around 10K/yr usage.... i dont like this infact.... for old car, too low milleage could means some serious accident before..... Mzrmazda3 6th Gear January 14, 2006 Share January 14, 2006 Sekali, previous owner changed his engine oil at 1 year interval since it's usage is around 10K per year Synthetic oil max last 6 months or 10K whichever comes first
Blackyv Turbocharged January 14, 2006 Share January 14, 2006 frankly,... i dare to say 99% of those who will buy a civic SIR are not those auntie who need a ride to fetch child to/fro school type........

So_nice 6th Gear January 14, 2006 Share January 14, 2006 well, it doesnt matter which yr they are registered frankly speaking. dun forget tat when u renew ur coe, everything becomes ZERO..so i dun understand how come u derived at "Once a old car has renew its COE, it will goes back to the COE at that time. but not the COE at the present time. therefore the COE is ex. and you all will think that it is nonsense for a COE at that time. But why these car is not scrap and still selling, cos the value is high in terms of paper value" a 10 yr old car practically has got no body value to talk about & if one is buying, tat is definitely paying the owner the paper value & probably a few Ks above paper. we arent talking about those exotic cars of course. so it doesnt really make sense for a ek4 to be priced at $48k when u consider it's paper value at point renewal is ard $18k(take its OMV to be $22k @ 80%). dealers most probably brought these cars ard $22k-24k. throw in another $10k coe which adds up to abt $34k..so the pic is clearer now i guess? not forgetting interest rates of at least 4%/yr..imagine how much can be made from these ek4s. although i do agreed that one has to pay more for something rare but it hardly justify the $14k(excluding loan interest profit) for the dealers. of course, the dealers are doing a business so there is nothing wrong wif them making profits out of it. btw bro, are u a car dealer? Kayaki Neutral Newbie January 14, 2006 Share January 14, 2006 so sorry to create such a comotion. well, i dunno , but i remember seeing my regisration card with such statement. something that about revalidating the coe , is the same as the quota of cat A. perhaps i am wrong . but a old car, for that price, the dealer knows that with that kind of $, ppl can easily get a new car wit OMV on top of it. whats make him so gung-ho to price that car ? there must be something to it . i am definitrly not a car dealer. i just observe the 2nd car more from the sgcarmart as i may need to get rid of 5 year old accent. as i may plan to get a 2nd hand car or a new car . apology if i had thrown any false remarks if i had done so. ↡ Advertisement
