Dennisk Clutched January 19, 2006 Share January 19, 2006 Full face race clutch plates are usually not for high hp applications. Probably good up to 250hp. Stock tranny should be able to handle 250. If you're making in excess of 350hp, then you gotta drive conservatively. Have a friend broke 2nd gear on his super charged S2K tunned to slightly above 350hp @ wheel. Thats from hard launch shifting. The strength of your tranny depends on what your car's stock power. Jap cars usually have parts rated to handle power slightly more than stock. US and European domestic cars usually have alot stronger parts. If you're making so much power that you run the risk of breaking gears, its also a good idea to get beefier axals and stiffer motor mount bushings as well. so for NA car, we can go for full face race clutch plates? what actually we need to change? BlueSi Neutral Newbie January 20, 2006 Share January 20, 2006 If its a daily driver, not putting out crazy amount of torque, yes a full face race is the way to go. You can go online and look for clutch kits for your car. The companies making them will tell you which one will best suit your needs and you can mix and match clutch disk, pressure plates and flywheel. I suggested changing the pressure plate and flywheel as well simply coz when you're doing a clutch job, your tranny is already pulled and to reach the disk, the pressure plate would need to be removed anyways, and the flywheel will be in full view, so why not just get everything and change everything at once? Save on the labor cost to pull everything out again next time.
Dennisk Clutched January 20, 2006 Share January 20, 2006 does it cost more than 1k for all these changes?
BMW320i Neutral Newbie January 20, 2006 Share January 20, 2006 Depends on what your after. My Exedy or AVO clutch cost $1050AUD. AVO flywheel 7.7kg (stock 14) at $750AUD, Pressure plate unknown ... Mech require 1-2 days to tune both flywheel and clutch to work in harmony. If you are after factory components it'll be cheaper but I'm sure parts and labour will most likely exceed the $1k region ? BlueSi Neutral Newbie January 20, 2006 Share January 20, 2006 My clutct and pressure plate was in the region of $500+ and flywheel around $170. Labor was expensive ... I think its a standard 5h job so around $300. So my total came up to be around $1000 .... USD Hopefully labor cost will be cheaper there. Or you can try doing it urself? It'll take anywhere from a wkend to a week since u are limited in equiptment and experience, the time depends on how fast u can solve problems when u screw things up. I've tried it on a friend's car ... tranny jobs really suck! just bring it to a shop.
