Genie47 1st Gear January 11, 2006 Share January 11, 2006 Helix Ultra is 5W40, RS is 10W50. Want to save money, use lighter oils. They are actually cheaper than heavier oils in reality but here in Asia, heavy oils command the market.

Genie47 1st Gear January 11, 2006 Share January 11, 2006 Only USA. But it is not popular. Most Americans like the 10W30 save for freezing Minnesota winters.
DarkLord 1st Gear January 11, 2006 Share January 11, 2006 Hehe... but there aint no winter freeze over here!
Dwoon 1st Gear January 11, 2006 Share January 11, 2006 I just realised a week back that my FC is also affected by my ATF condition. I was getting torque slip (auto-box) when I floored the pedal and when I changed out the ATF, it gave me much more mileage. (torque slip also reduced) For same driving pattern..... before ATF flush, my FC had gone down to ~ 6 to7 km/l. After the flush, it went up ~ 8.5 to 9.5 km/l under the same driving conditions/pattern.

Ravrex Neutral Newbie January 12, 2006 Share January 12, 2006 Wet weather increase FC because the tires will struggle for grip on the road. If the roads get slightly flooded with as much as only 1cm of water, the tires will have to push their way through which also will increase FC. I think its quite true about the weather and FC. I notice my FC increased with the recent weeks of showers every other day. Sigh..

Genie47 1st Gear January 12, 2006 Share January 12, 2006 Point to note: Service your vehicle at the stipulated manufacturer intervals. Best mechanical guarantee for fuel economy.

Tploh Clutched January 12, 2006 Share January 12, 2006 I think higher FC during rainy days is due to slower travelling speed by all cars, not neccesary just the fault of your own car.
RadX Moderator January 12, 2006 Share January 12, 2006 however, quite true tht more resistance is met, making the car work harder...end up higher FC
Gadgeter 2nd Gear January 12, 2006 Share January 12, 2006 I have also just switched from 10W40 to 5W30... Hopes it improve the FC.
Tploh Clutched January 12, 2006 Share January 12, 2006 Agree but would the increased in resistance by water cause more than 10% increment in FC ? I noted that I am driving most of the time on 4th gear while it is raining vs. 5th gear as I have to slow down to be in sync with all other vehicles. Genie47 1st Gear January 12, 2006 Share January 12, 2006 Some guys up north with Wira's got better FC when they switched from 15W40 to 10W30. About 7% improvement. ↡ Advertisement
