Cola80 Neutral Newbie January 7, 2006 Share January 7, 2006 For those on Shell, have you noticed any improvement in your mileage recently? I'm on 98 and have observed improvement of about 10% (on two different cars), even though no change in driving pattern and route. in fact, right foot was heavier recently. ↡ Advertisement
Skodarr Neutral Newbie January 7, 2006 Share January 7, 2006 Well IMHO, was on Mobil 98, Shell 98 and surrently Caltex 98. Compaing the rest, I feel that Caltex 98 offer a more smoother acceleration. FC is almost similar as I had tested for 3 months ...
Fortress Clutched January 8, 2006 Share January 8, 2006 (edited) Been using Shell for quite a while, before and also this Octavia...achieved 16km/l using 98 Octane, have not achieved 17 km/l using V-power, which has a better range fuel, after changing my compressor and tyres. However, don't jump straight into it, cost versus mileage does not gel for V-power. Thought I saw you at Sin Ming Yesterday. XLR8 1st Gear January 8, 2006 Share January 8, 2006 Yes I have done this experiment before and am now running only on Shell. Was using Mobil 95 before and now with Shell 95 I get an average of 30km more on each tank.
Volk74 Neutral Newbie January 9, 2006 Share January 9, 2006 Was on Mobil 98 before the huge price increase. Switched to Mobil 95...then to Caltex 95.... Will never go back to Mobil 95......Caltex has better mileage and feels much more powerful. Have not tried Shell yet
Cola80 Neutral Newbie January 9, 2006 Author Share January 9, 2006 Guys, you guys probably have mistaken, what I meant was I have been on Shell98 for a long while and have achieved better mileage recently on the same petrol and grade. So wanted to see if anyone of you experienced the same improvement. The improvement I noticed was about 10% and my driving patterns and routes have not changed. Note that I have calculated mileage by taking distance travelled divided by amount of petrol, only pumped at my usual kiosk the past few weeks, have noticed the improvememt for the past few re-fills so not one-off, and the two cars I mentioned have not been serviced for a few months already. I probably mentioned in an earlier post in another thread that I noticed a 10% reduction for the same petrol (shell98) sometime back (about one year ago) so mileage is back to where it was about one year ago. saw me at sin ming? was it early 1am sat morning because i recall the only time i was there was when i sent a colleague home in sin ming? XLR8 1st Gear January 9, 2006 Share January 9, 2006 Ya to me, Mobil the worst. Dunno why. On my civic it used to give quite good mileage but not for this car.

Volk74 Neutral Newbie January 11, 2006 Share January 11, 2006 Improved mileage might be due to the weather... Now the temp is lower...so our engine will also burnt more efficiently...
C708 Neutral Newbie January 11, 2006 Share January 11, 2006 WH, U have a point actually.......cooler air intake means better combustion hence a better & leaner burn.....

Cola80 Neutral Newbie January 12, 2006 Author Share January 12, 2006 Agreed, CAI will be one of the next list of things to do. However if it is this reason, would expect most of you to have observed improvement in mileage even on other petrol as well. From what I gather so far, don't think anyone else has the same observation. ↡ Advertisement
