During my timing belt replacement, mechanic noted that my battery was getting pregnant. Highly possible it would explode. So I went to get a new one. Got an elephant sized 60Ah Hitachi for 90bucks.

Watch out for anything pregnant in the car. Battery - abort it. Tire - get them to the nearest clinic. Woman - cannot get rid, drive carefully.

What are the symptoms of a pregnant battery and what causes it to get "pregnant" .

I have heard of pregnant tyres, but not pregnant batteries.

Yup. I too had that once with a battery which lasted about 4 years.

My battery guy noticed the sides bulging out. Told me to replace but I waited several months till the battery died then got it changed.

I know, I like to live dangerously. [pirate]

The Amaron battery costs a lot more. I decided against it. Market price for a 45Ah is around 80, so 90-95 for a 60Ah is not that bad.

The cause is heat built-up inside the battery - can be due to poor air circulation, plate highly coated with suphate , high ampere charging over a long period, faulty alternator unable to rectify ac output, over tightening of battery bracket.
