Warming Up Queries

[wave][wave] i will always make it a point to warm up my car before driving off.

However, sometimes after parking for say 4 to 5 hours, the warming up light came on again.

So, would like to check whether is this common or should I send my ride in for servicing?

eh, for my ride, before i drive off. there will be a blue indicator coming on showing the engine being warmed up.

i will drive off after the indicator is off. i am under the impression that the light will come on if the engine is cold say after an overnight parking.

so, want to check wiz the rest how often does theirs come on?

The Blue Indicator signals the engine is cold. After 4-5 hours is long enough for the engine to cool down. The blue light will come on if the optimum temperature is not reached wink.gif

But no worries lar ... nothing wrong there. Even with the blue light indicator on .... you can drive off and let the engine warm up whilst you are on the move. No need to waste petrol and wait for the blue lights to go off before you drive off. wink.gif

Those lights are to tell you ... engine is warming up but not at optimum temperature, so drive easy and let it warm up nod.gif Dont go pedal to the floor just yet wink.gif

Your SE never tell you these things ah dizzy.gifconfused.gif

No need to wait until the light goes off then drive off. nod.gif

Just start car and drive off ... let the car warm up whilst on the move. If you wait, you are just wasting petrol idling the engine sly.gif

Doesnt matter sunny lot or not .... the engine management system controls the systems, not sunlight laugh.gif

Hitman is right. Anyway the car warms up faster if there is a load. Have the engine moving the car means giving the car a load. Turn on the A/C and ICE, the load increases = faster warm up. Just drive off.

dun have to wait for the lite to go off... juz make it a point not to step too much at ur pedal(below 3000rpm) while driving b4 warming up.

i agree. the best way to get the engine to operating temperature is to drive off once engine started. drive smoothly and increase speed gradually. this will help the engine oil circulate and lubricate the moving parts faster. letting it idle wastes petrol and doesn't help the engine oil process.

doesn't matter what car you drive, it applies to all.

agree.. juz drive off once engine is started, just go easy on the right foot and keep the revs low so as not to put too much strain on the "still cold" engine.

analogy: in the past, it was thought that we should do warm ups before any strenuous exercise. but now, we know that we should do light exercise instead of trying to stretch our muscles that are still cold.

our body is sort of a "machine", same goes for the engine! :)

cars nowadays no need to warm up....gently drive out immediately upon cranking the engine...

it's true that new cars these days warm up faster but do let the car warm up a min or 2 before driving off.

The advance oil flow fast but need to reach certain temperature before it can perform it's optimum ability.

I thought car nowaday no need to warm-up.

Once crank, can drive off (if not just wasting petrol/$$)

But just go slow initial, and dont step hard on the pedal.
