Rizzzl Neutral Newbie January 28, 2003 Share January 28, 2003 Hi, This might have been discussed before but cannot seem to find the answers. The problem is I find that after driving for about 1-2 hrs, sometimes feel engine revving abit rough, especially on a hot day, How can we keep the smooth revving feeling we get in the morning or during night driving. Thanks! ↡ Advertisement
Super7 Turbocharged January 29, 2003 Share January 29, 2003 do you mean after 1-2 hours of high speed driving, when you stop and let the engine idle (eg at traffic lights), the idling speed of the engine is high and abit rough??
RadX Moderator January 29, 2003 Share January 29, 2003 (edited) Think you have a fair amount of deposits that may be embedded, esp at higher temps, due to the change in properties...another thing is you should redline regularly to clear these deps.... The carbon deposits build up over time and guess a goot 'italian tune-up' shld help.... Rough Running -- A malfunction in either the fuel or ignition system can cause an engine to run rough. It can also be due to an internal engine condition, such as bad valve or piston. Does it occur when idling? When accelerating? At all speeds? --- Your best bet is to have a qualified technician perform diagnostic and tune up services as needed. just my 0.02...when was ur last svcing? Presea 3rd Gear January 29, 2003 Share January 29, 2003 ??.. driving for 1-2 hours... and your engine is rough after that? Maybe the difference you are feeling is the cool air going into the intake in the morning and evening. Afternoon heat causes the incoming air to be hotter, and that is usually less efficient for the engine. I actually find my engine more sluggish in the mornings...but after hard driving, and high revving, it gets smoother, and more willing to rev. At night if the engine has been sufficiently warmed up (if it cools down during the day), it is also just a smooth... And after 2 hours of high speed driving up the NS highway, the engine is actually very smooth, but it gets temperamental below 2500rpm... keep it above 3000 and my engine is very happy
RadX Moderator January 29, 2003 Share January 29, 2003 "....Afternoon heat causes the incoming air to be hotter, and that is usually less efficient for the engine... " I actually notice the converse...when pm comes, and I drive, the engine becomes smoother..am, I feel a bit sluggish cos engine oil starting up temp low so takes a while!!! Presea 3rd Gear January 29, 2003 Share January 29, 2003 (edited) ...what I read was that as the morning air is cooler, it is denser, and contains more oxygen per equal volume, and that should allow for more efficient burning... ...but here in Singapore, morning air isn't that cool I guess. Overseas, sometimes the diff between morning and afternoon could be more than 15 degrees... min 6 max 21. Here, we'd be getting min 24 max 32 kinda temperatures. Probably not that much of a diff . cheers Edited January 29, 2003 by Presea

Andrewkb Neutral Newbie January 29, 2003 Share January 29, 2003 In fact, my friend driving a 318i told me the same .. it's smoother to drive in the afternoon !!! Under hot sun !!! Seems like it's true after all !
Saaber Neutral Newbie January 29, 2003 Share January 29, 2003 For me, day driving is sluggish but comes night, it turn into a beast....
Rizzzl Neutral Newbie January 29, 2003 Author Share January 29, 2003 Nah, I mean when you drive in the morning after the car warmed up abit, the revving is purring (like a cat)but if I drive when its hot (eg, started driving from noon all the way to 2pm), the engine tends to growl, no longer purring. Thats how I feel anyway.
Presea 3rd Gear January 29, 2003 Share January 29, 2003 ....purring because you are easy on the accelerator perhaps... and it probably growls when prodded harder.... Sometimes I think my car growls as well
Presea 3rd Gear January 29, 2003 Share January 29, 2003 ..."beast"... you referring to the car or the driver but I understand. Come night time, my black car is like a dark shadow....makes me feel evil too sometimes. ..btw, thanks for the catalogue... the models (for Nissan) are a little outdated, but I found a close match. Nissan Pulsar 1.6 (w/turbo)...has the same size clutch. But I really don't know if I want to get a new pressure plate or just the dual-friction disc. It seems like most brands carry the same kind of product, so it'll all be about a matter of cost...
Rizzzl Neutral Newbie January 29, 2003 Author Share January 29, 2003 Don't think its anything wrondg with the engine. I feel the growling only when driving continuously for 1-2 hrs during hot days. My last servicing was a month back.

Get the cheapest one lah.......anyway it is a wear and tear item....as for you, very very wear and tear
Rizzzl Neutral Newbie January 29, 2003 Author Share January 29, 2003 Wah, some say colder better but some say hotter better. So which is which? I tend to sway to colder better after engine warmup but not too hot which means doins CAI and heat wrapping might help. Am I correct? ↡ Advertisement
