Acemundo Supercharged November 11, 2005 Share November 11, 2005 last 2 mornings i was driving side by side a touran near my house. i have to say it looks pretty torquey car to me
Hogster Neutral Newbie November 11, 2005 Share November 11, 2005 Tired the 2L FSI. Didn't really have a chance to really drive it a little faster due to peak hour traffic. Engine is pretty quiet and shifts are smooth on the 6 speed transmission. Turning radius is pretty small for a car that size. Third row seats are more for kids or little people. Can be folded flat and covered. This looks more like a tall station wagon. Interior is a little boring to look at because it is all black. Comes with ESP and 6 airbags together with the standard kit. Oh, they also have the dual zone aircon for the 2L. Sliver looks good on the test car as compared to the black one in the showroom. Want leather got to pay extra. Difference better the 1.6 and 2.0 is just the aircon if I remembered correctly, besides the engine size that is. Eh, I find it a little pricy for that car for both 1.6 and 2.0 even for a VW. Odyssey02 Clutched November 11, 2005 Share November 11, 2005 yea, vw is marketed as 'high class' car in sg while in europe is 'people car'.
Jolie888 Clutched November 12, 2005 Share November 12, 2005 89K for 1.6L and 98K for 2.0L with relatively low OMV of between 23K to 25K. Too expensive IMHO, agent makes a good profit sellling it. Compare PI Jap MPVs with same OMVs selling for 70K to 80K only. E.g. Wish from Richburg < 80K, but get to use Borneo Motor workshops. Touran's 1.6L FSI too underpowered at its price point, cannot compare with the Wish's BEAMS 1.8L VVTi.
Odyssey02 Clutched November 12, 2005 Share November 12, 2005 huh, richburg wish can use borneo motor workshops?
Jolie888 Clutched November 12, 2005 Share November 12, 2005 Yes, just confirmed it with them. Its some sort of joint venture where Richburg only brings in the Toyota models from Japan (which BM does not ... or rather are not permitted, to carry). But Richburg does charge a premium for their price, since they have to pay a "warranty fee" to BM. You can call them to confirm yourself. They are the only PIs AFAIK to have a direct link to the agent's workshops. That's their selling point, albeit at a higher price over other PIs. ... and they are allowed to only sell Toyotas. A business extension really, for Borneo Motors, to cast a wider net here.
Hogster Neutral Newbie November 12, 2005 Share November 12, 2005 You can find it at Car Buyer, issue 39. Sorry, no soft copy. Lookwise, not going to win any awards lah. More like a function over form thingy. It does what it is design for, and ends there. Just my 2 cents.
Hogster Neutral Newbie November 12, 2005 Share November 12, 2005 They should just knock of a few grand of the current price. The 2L is priced too close to the Odyssey. Still, i believe prices will drop since it was only recently launched.
Hogster Neutral Newbie November 12, 2005 Share November 12, 2005 Since day one when they hit Singapore shores. Guess maybe that's the reason why their prices are higher then other PIs.
Odyssey02 Clutched November 12, 2005 Share November 12, 2005 who the heck will spend 98k for a 2.0 touran when the 2.4 EX ody only costs 96k. a bigger engine, more powerful, more fuel efficient, better aftersales and most importantly, MORE SPACE. and the latest odyssey did quite well for the japanese crash testing. full stars and it scored better then the golf. Easyrider 6th Gear November 13, 2005 Share November 13, 2005 who the heck will spend 98k for a 2.0 touran? People who have too much money to spend and want a Volkswagen badge on their car
Hogster Neutral Newbie November 14, 2005 Share November 14, 2005 According to the SE, more people went for the 2L Touran. That was like within a week after it's launch.
Fluffy Clutched November 14, 2005 Share November 14, 2005 (edited) why Touran?? because it is the best in its class !! not everyone loves to pay higher road tax (2.0 vs 2.4), have an interior that shouts "ah pek" and drives like an MPV, and in black, looks like a hearse. The Touran is a compact MPV, for young families, has a dark but well made interior, sporty in a way, drives like a hatch, not a lorry, and in black, looks like a minivan, not a hearse. Oh, and the Touran is also great in other features such as the flexible seating that for the 3rd row, easily folds into the floor and then you have more space for huge loads! We are talking about the Touran here, not the Golf, so in regards to safety, the Touran is Safest in its Class and recently, also got 5 stars in the EuroNcap http://www.carpages.co.uk/volkswagen/volks...&echo=925509545 Best MPV, iAfrica.com http://motoring.iafrica.com/roadtest/345903.htm Best in class MPV with 5 star EuroNcap http://www.vwasia.com/publish/vwasia/vwasi...-class_mpv.html What Car? Zakuii 1st Gear November 14, 2005 Share November 14, 2005 Saw the Touran being reviewed in one the sunday on CNA. Dun like the dash as it looks outdated. The reviewer also commented the same. to get flat floor, the 2nd or 3rd row seats have to be removed from the car. for those living in hdb, not pratical. imagine carrying the seats from the car park to the lift to the house. others will look weirdly at you. ↡ Advertisement
