HOw fast do u think an Alfa can go?

thiis is just some info i read on alfa uk forum. it was a discussion on 0-100 timings and top speed. those who claim 220kmh top speed were corrected. im not sure whos rite but their reasoning seems logical.

Yup, you are right, speedo are not accurate. I have checked against my GPS and it's 5km/h diff, the speedo being the faster one.

 

Ok, so I correct myself, " my 147 1.6 max out at around 200km/h". [blush]

 

Dunno about GT, but my colleague 156SW max out at 220km/h (reading from speedo)... so I would assume the GT being the lighter one can do slightly more... [;)]

Stock version maybe about 200 to 215 depends on road & weather condition.

Paper spec written 216...

Now, I'm really missing my 164, again. Gotta break out them old photographs.

 

Actually the 164 was so reliable, it was almost jap-like. service every 6 months and you just drive it every day. Kinda miss the character of my old 'sud and 33.

 

Still driving your 146?

Nope, it was the 2L (same engine as the 75). the balance was actually better than the 3L, real pleasure to drive. 1st day driving home along AYE and wondering why everyone else was going so slow, until I looked down at the speedo......

 

Brakes were ok, just had to flush fluid every year, and change the tubing just before the calipers every 4-5 years, leisurely afternoons work while the kids take a nap.

 

(Normally flushed the fluid after 2 track events. But if normal driving, onece a year is the norm. Get a pressure bleeder, saves time and $$$)

 

All my Alfas had big turning circles. I'm sure there must be a reason :-)

 

 

 

Drove the 3L (The Q, with Kirschtein ECU and 24V cams) in US from LA to Vegas. Cruised at 240+ with the air-con full blast (factory installed a/c, not the local version we get here). Very comfy especially across the desert. Later realised the stretch of I-5 we drove on is actually a cash-generating section with bookings done by chopper overhead. Damned lucky didn't get a ticket :-)

Yes, the 164, had 2 of them and one is still in my home down under, don't remember spending much or anything on it, mainly doing it myself.

 

Had a Boat tail(spider), 1750, 2000, 33, 75 and GTV(wifey killed it). In negoitiation with a Spider at the moment and looking for a 156.

 

Never had a 146 tho.

Oh, "Japanese like" was not meant as insult, just "boring" :-) fire-up and go. Apart from the regular servicing (also mainly DIY), it never sought attention like the 'sud and 33. Come to think of it, all the Alfas were more reliable than my suzuki and Lancer (which left me stranded twice).

 

Found the pedals too far apart, missed the close positioning of the 'sud. But then, I guess the 164 had a different target audience.

 

re the 146, sorry, mistook u for someone else.

 

Wife still looking out for a 156. When the price is right......

In fact, 164 was the last true Alfa.....before going to fiat. Like you rightly said so, different target audience....I actually like that spacing of the pedal....Extremely reliable car.....Still have 1 in down under, exported there.

 

in fact, I feel the Japanese reliability is a myth....the parts may last longer but they are meant to be disposed unless to be maintained.

Have others cars at the sametime, which are sports car, numbered 22 of them till date. Alfa has the charactoristic of a poor man sportcar, maybe because during working hours, you do not want to be seen driving a Ferrari or a Porsche to work. Image is the other, as an employee, I do not want to be caught dead driving a Japanese car, painted a square image. You have power and speed (less tho) when you need it.

 

They are easy to repair or maintain, contrary to popular believe made by mechanics trying to work for a living, just need to DIY. Maybe you can call me old fashion, not trying to leanr new things....laugh.gif.
