Hi guys,

My tyres are due for change and i jus want some recommedations

My needs are: cheap, grippy, long-lasting, comfort, low noise blah blah blah...no la... [:p]

I want:

Grippy in dry and wet

Long lasting

Price (lowest priority but still impt)

I don't give a damn about comfort and road noise. It can be the stiffest and noisiest tyres but if it satisfy my 3 criteria can already.

Been leaning towards the Eagle F1, but heard it is not long lasting. Comments from users?

Thanks!!!

I agree.nod.gif But it could be noisy.sweatdrop.gif My bro who just bought this tyre (mfg. year 2005) earlier this year can't stand the noise and he switched to Dragon last week.

Bro,

For your type of driving, you need real good tyres!!!

By the way, I am schedule to change my spark plugs, can PM me your range of plugs that you have in stock? I am now using the IK16.

What's your tyre profile?

Bridgestone tyres are quite durable and predictable in grip in general. If you are on 195/55, you can try S02 if it's available. S03, RE050 (compound softer) are pretty ok. RE070 has even stiffer sidewall and aggressive tread pattern, but from what I last checked, the sizes are only for Evo and WRX. RE-01R is coming sometime end Dec which I'm anticipating to try it out.

The prices are not the cheapest but value for money.

Advan Neova AD07 is softer and does provide the ultimate grip feeling (like S02) but the wear rate is higher. Tyre is cheaper but you'll need to change more often.

Michelin are quite expensive (I mean PS2), so I guess that's out of the question for you.

I'm tempted to try out PS2 but the high price puts me off as I change tyres pretty often.

I like the Falken Azenis ST-115. Maintained very good grip for more than 40,000 km. Don't know how much longer it can last, cos I just traded in the car! [laugh] Probably another 5,000 km.

My experience with it:

Zips through puddles at 100km/h .. shiok - excellent wet grip [thumbsup]

Comfortable and relatively quiet for first 10,000 km [sleeping]

Gets a bit noisy after about 20,000 km [thumbsdown]

Looks good [cool]

Bought it about $100 2 years ago. (195/55R15 size)

Review by Torque Magazine (Jun 05) on Eagle F-1 GSD3:

"Conclusion:

The GSD3 comes across as a wet or intermediate compound that has been adapted for a balance between dry and wet performance. It generates high numbers in the dry but does not feel it would like a dry track session as the compound seems to get soft and sticky. But in normal driving, it can still slug it out with the very best. It feels significantly better in the wet and has high g-numbers, great confidences and handling to match ... And when it rains it is clearly head and shoulders above the rest. It's attractively priced too, which makes it exceptional value."

Dry: 8/10

Wet: 8/10

Comfort: 7/10

Weight for 225/45 R17 tyre: 10.8 kg

hmm...so confirm Eagle F1 is not very durable even though quite grippy

My tyre size is 195/55/R15

I'm on Falken ZE-326 now... not bad. Wet grip is there and dry grip is v. good!

maybe can re-use the same

[reply]

Heard the Pirelli Dragon is quite noisy even though quite comfortable for a Level A tyre. confused.gif

But I remember I saw somewhere that the review for Dragon was rated 7 for all Wet, Dry & Comfort category. So I think it should not be so noisy type. Anyway, I'll check with my bro after he had clocked somemore mileage to see how it performs.

I also hear from a fellow MCFer here that its a rather quiet tyre.nod.gif
