Supercharged

i am thinking whether to pick kenari vs picanto..

so which is better ?

Which one appeals to you in terms of looks and design?

Kenari has the space and (I heard) is reliable becos its running on a Daihatsu engine. You could also get cheap maintanence across the Causeway. But its shape is like a box van (IMO).. [rolleyes]

WE'RE FOOLS TO SCRAP OUR CARS!

Thursday October 27, 2005

Why not let owners buy their cars back for $0?

Letter from

Jack Koh Chin Guan

I REFER to the article "S'pore cars find new lease of life - overseas", (Oct 24).

I cannot understand why Singapore is wasting resources like this. Up to 100,000 cars - post 2000 models that are well kept and in good working condition - are now going to benefit overseas buyers.

Most of these de-registered export cars are sold to exporters at scrap value. This means the owners only get back the equivalent dollar values of the partial PARF and COE values.

The de-registered car itself is deemed to be worth zero. But its actual worth is a few thousand dollars - at least to the overseas buyers!

Doesn't this make our car owners look like fools? Why don't we help ourselves?

Since the de-registered car is worth $0, why not allow the owner to buy it back at $0. He then re-registers it with a new COE, at market price. Since the car is worth $0, the various taxes will also cost $0 too.

As all taxes are certain percentages of the value of the car, at time of purchase (or re-purchase, in this case), it will only cost him slightly more than the price of the new COE to register his "de-registered" car.

The owner will be richer by the difference. It could be a win-win situation for both the authorities and car owners.

It will be an economic booster for all, too, as money is retained in the country.

I read the Car Buyer paper. They mention Kelisa Manual is 16.2 sec and Auto is 20.1 sec from 0 - 100KM/H. Is Kelisa Auto really very slow? And Picanto Manual 15.4 sec and Auto 16.9 sec, the different only 1.5 Sec but Kelisa Manual and Auto different is about 3.9 Sec. That is so terrible for Auto Kelisa. Can anyone tell me the figure above is true or not? [smallcry] Can anyone tell me what is the actual figure for Kelisa Auto? I heard some people added air compressor and the car become super fast even for Kelisa Auto, is it true or not? If so got any bad impact or not? what is the impact if also change the air filter? Someone also mention if install compressor or change air filter will shorten the engine life span. Is it true?

Trade-in yours for better acceleration model

i am thinking whether to pick kenari vs picanto..

so which is better ?

Static: Kenari safer. Picanto more spacious cabin/headroom. Kenari aftermarket already

Dynamic: Picanto better brakes and above 130km/H. Above 130km/H Kenari engine may start to get noisy.

Excluded in comparison: road adhersion/lateral accelerartion (believe to be about the same)

Pity him.. Only got an answer after 7 years [:p] [:p] [rolleyes]

Perhaps others a little too humble to share their experiences. I happened to own Kelisa and Myvi previously. I traded in for Panda. Good road adhersion, wet or dry. Please do not go racing :o

Go for picanto imo. The kenari was based off a 1997? Daihatsu Move Aero Custom.

hi, i.m new here. i want to buy budget car... i i got 2 car in mind.....kenari and viva.... can any one tell me the diff of this 2 cars. tks

VIVA !!! Cos I am driving one hahah .... you can go to the Malaysia section look out for Perodua Topic then can get info from there..

Why I like Viva .. but choose EZI if possible becos of the higher spec

1) 2 Airbag

2) ABS

3) Retractable side mirror with indicator , 4 power window

4) 1000cc cheap road tax at $390 per year

5) Low fuel at 15km/litre , Auto version

6) cheap maintainence , require only abour 2.6litre of Engine Oil, 3 Spark Plug for 3 cylinder

7) sp are part widely available in Malaysia and is cheap

8) Engine wise and others part so far so good for me, no break down for 3 years car (depend on your regular servicing also)

9) good pick up and still stable at 110km (still can go further)

10) DVVT Engine (Daihasu Engine) thus is reliable

11) many more hahahah
