Mercur1al Clutched October 13, 2005 Share October 13, 2005 First time using this kinda drying cloth that has to be kept in a plastic container, so a few questions to ask. Is it a need to soak the synthetic chamois in warm water first? Every single time before using or just once? Claims to be streak free, but the last chamois that i used (slightly different, didn't come in a plastic container) wasn't streak free. ↡ Advertisement
Dice 3rd Gear October 15, 2005 Share October 15, 2005 i think if its chamois should be soak in cold water instead, warm or hot water promotes rusting. Then u will need to twist dry your chamois b4 using. i used syn chamois b4 but like not easy to use so i have since changed to Meguair drying towel, u can find it in carrefour at about 25 bucks
Jlim Clutched October 16, 2005 Share October 16, 2005 idun think warm or hot water matter? Just give it a quick wash, when the chamois is able to completely absorb water, wring dry can use liao. just remember to store them in the container with the chamois damp, not dry. Tyming Neutral Newbie October 18, 2005 Share October 18, 2005 keep damp in the container?..can grow mold or smell or not?
Sash7 Neutral Newbie October 18, 2005 Share October 18, 2005 hi bro, thats the recommended menthod to keep it in good condition... think it will stink abit... use to do that.. does have a funny smell..
Blackyv Turbocharged October 18, 2005 Share October 18, 2005 IMO, synthetic chamois CMI (have 1 lying in my storeroom collecting dust after first time usage due to streaking)... go for the real chamois that normally cost more than $20 bucks...i'm using 3M chamois now, still alive and kicking for 1.5yr of usage (average twice a week)... streak free..chop stamp... btw, i use it as per normal cloth,,didnt soak in hot or cold water or any speacial treatment.. just open box, throw into water,,.. Ivan96935sg Neutral Newbie October 23, 2005 Share October 23, 2005 I always hang it open in my rear boot to dry it. However it will hardened when dry but will have any odd smell though.....
Sash7 Neutral Newbie October 24, 2005 Share October 24, 2005 thats y the instruction is to keep it slightly damp.. so that the chamois won't harden... sometime some of the portion juz dry up.. can't soak up water anymore... maybe that apply to cheaper chamois? not too sure though... Southpark2000 Neutral Newbie October 24, 2005 Share October 24, 2005 I think so..... My autoglym wan hardens and dries like a piece of paper towel...does not affect its ability to absorb water.... In fact, it is meant to be stored dry. Dunno how many ppl went C4 to get the autoglym chamois - super deal over the weekedn - $16.90 niah Southpark The Dude
Lonewolf Neutral Newbie October 25, 2005 Share October 25, 2005 I use the cheaper synthetic chamois and it doesn't dry up or harden or anything like that. Behaves like any normal cotton cloths. Yes it does streaks but I usually use it as a 'first cut' when drying following by MF.
E-Jazz Neutral Newbie September 10, 2010 Share September 10, 2010 Hi, Can I check with you guys, Aqua Dry Autoglym synthetic leather cloth is only use when you want to dry the car only? Or can we clean the car like normal by wetting it, wring it and then just wipe the car with it? Or must we use another MF cloth for cleaning the car then only use Aqua Dry for drying purpose? Thanks all.
5936 1st Gear September 10, 2010 Share September 10, 2010 I started with leather chamois. But with lowered prices of micro fibre cloth and wide range of choices, I had jumped ship. After wash, I used a large bath-towel size micro fibre cloth to dry car.
E-Jazz Neutral Newbie September 11, 2010 Share September 11, 2010 I have a piece of autoglym aqua dry chamois, so I believe i will still be using it. Cause based on the information I have read thus far, it seems that autoglym's version although slightly expensive, it does do the job very well compared to the other lower costing one. Furthermore, I have read people using it for 3 years and its still working fine. As for cleaning, it seems that I must get a micro fibre cloth. Cleaning referring to using the wet cloth to wipe around the car washing it. Guess I'll have to make a visit to home-fix again. So far, I have only read about MF cloth of 3M brand that most are using. Perhaps i'll be getting one or two pieces of it since I think the wheels require it too. Any brands for car shampoo that anyone could recommend?

Any brands for car shampoo that anyone could recommend? hi bro, suggest u can go to the detailing section, look for the thread abt Duragloss. It is carried by one of the mcf sponsor maddriver (aka MD in short). his products are quite user friendly for people who knows nuts abt detailing (like me!! ) i bought the autoglym chamois immediately within a week after getting my ride based on the recommendation of my polisher, then came across DG products, including the famous WW towel. frankly, i regret getting the chamois already but since gotten, i kept it in my car to wipe off water droplets at times. enuff of saying, do read the thread on ur own bah.....disclaimer, i have nothing to do with DG, just a happy customer. 5936 1st Gear September 11, 2010 Share September 11, 2010 Not sticking to any single brand. Usually the between turtle ICE and Amour All ultra shine wash & shine - All these in 2QT size. Too lazy to wash weekly. If I can wash twice a month that will be very hard working already. So the 2QT bottle ( close to 2L) can last more than 1 year. Thanks all. If you have both mf cloth and synthetic chomois..use mf cloth to wet the car and chomois to dry the car..becos usually drying towel has good good absorbency..they do not work well on wetting car surface..
