Imuya Clutched October 10, 2005 Share October 10, 2005 wa sxxt....now very gian to use even lower weight oil. Amsoil got 0W20? Anyway if no, then 0W30 vs 5W30 the any noticeable difference or not.
Genie47 1st Gear October 10, 2005 Author Share October 10, 2005 (edited) 0W30 and 5W30 not much difference. The most easily available is RP 5W20. If you are driving an MB or VW or European car, move over to Castrol SLX-A3 0W30! Go thin oils! Edited October 10, 2005 by Genie47

Cyberet Neutral Newbie October 10, 2005 Share October 10, 2005 hopefully it will be easier to get 20wt oil in the future. My only source of 20wt is RP
Genie47 1st Gear October 10, 2005 Author Share October 10, 2005 (edited) I dunno but a 10W30 should not be a problem for any of the modern engines of today. I've used 5W30 on my old Starlet. Works pretty good. Edited October 10, 2005 by Genie47
Str2 Neutral Newbie October 10, 2005 Share October 10, 2005 Hi Genie 47, I'm very confused.....I thot the first set numbers 0W, 5W or 10W is for winter rating for flow rating and the second set -30, -40, or -50 is for high temp flow rating. So isn't a 5W-50 better than a 10W-30 since the 5W/10W doesn't concern us as we don't hv winter temp and -50 is better (according to my confused notes). Kindly advise.........B-Rgds/Str2
Genie47 1st Gear October 10, 2005 Author Share October 10, 2005 Thicker is not better for any engine if you are not racing, towing or competing in hill climb rallies everyday. You get more frictional drag with thicker oil and hence higher FC. More drag also means more heat, engine runs hotter for wasting away all that energy. Then again, there is this issue with VII. 5W50 have more VII than a 10W30. So a 5W50 is not shear stable compared with a 10W30.

Genie47 1st Gear October 10, 2005 Author Share October 10, 2005 The oil thins in its viscosity. A good oil doesn't do that. ↡ Advertisement
