Another fine German engine showcase. [thumbsup]

Something tells me this showcase of fine German engineering won't come cheap in Singapore. Car & Cars is selling the base model Golf 1.6 FSI at S$90K (which is even more expensive than Alpine's S$89K Passat 2.0).

Car & Cars marketing strategy is wrong la. they selling VW in Sg as a high-class conti car. with such expensive cars, everyone would rather buy japanese jazzes, accords, camry's etc. who would spend so much on a VW that is not popular with high maintanence costs unless you were once a fan of the microbus or iconic beetle.

Sounds like a very good idea, combining the strengths of both the supercharger and turbo for excellent power throughout the rev range [thumbsup]

Forced Induction is actually an efficient way of achieving power. Larger engine has lower efficiency. However, the 2 methods of Forced Induction have cons.

While Turbocharging can give you high output, it has Turbo Lag, which makes you look ugly/ungraceful/cheap. (The WRX STi is crap, even it is tuned with 400hp. The passengers will feel sick of the Lag!)

Supercharging, on the other hand, has linear power delivery and no Turbo Lag. However, it has limited output (especially at high end) compared to Turbocharging. (The E200 has limited high-end power)

To minimise Turbo Lag, manufacturer has tried Sequential Turbocharging, i.e. a Small Turbo in front of a Big Turbo. Nevertheless, it is still not ideal because a Small Turbo still has Turbo Lag. (There is still Turbo Lag in SmallTurbo cars such as VW 2.0 TFSI, Volvo 2.0T, etc.)

With SuperTurbo, VW has managed to eliminate the problems of Turbocharger and Supercharger. VW TSI is basically similar to Sequential Turbocharging. The difference is that the Small Turbo has been replaced by a Supercharger with no Turbo Lag. The Big Turbo is there to provide the high highput.

While normal Turbo makes your engine look bigger, it also makes you look ugly/ungraceful/cheap due to the Turbo Lag.

With VW TSI, you are as good as having a bigger engine.

Current available engine:

1.4 TSI: 170hp, 240Nm @ 1,750rpm.

Coming up:

1.6 TSI and 2.0 TSI.
