Helicopter sound from front wheels...

Hi guys... Can anyone tell me whether uneven tyres can make such sound? Cause I came back from Stamford Tyres to do wheel rotation... And uncle said my tires are uneven... After rotation, I get this helicopter sound... [sweatdrop][sweatdrop]

So will it be an issue in the near future? [hur]

They did balance the wheels, I assume ? Far as I know, unless the wear you have is really THAT uneven (I may be wrong here), it shouldn't cause a lot of shudder. I had that problem on higher speeds (above 100km/h) when I first collected my car (long ago) and it turned out to be poorly balanced tyres.

There might be budge on the tyres, all you need to do is to feel it with your hands, you can feel the blister/s, that is causing the sound. Generally, the biggest cause to this fault is the hitting of the tyre onto the side of a metal plate at speed, so go slow when approaching it.

i think it is stamford tyres.

i used to have to go back at least 3 times to the lok yang branch before they did it right, only the final time did they let the supervisor do it, before that, the chinese mechs they have don't have the skill to do it well.

also, a few weeks ago, there was a complaint on the Straits Times forum page where an owner went to stamford tires at changi and they forgot to put back one of the wheel nuts.

Yes I ever encountered (my previous ride) uneven wear on the tire cos of lower arm in the front suspension system. And after I tried to rotate the rear tyres to the front instead of doing anything to the suspension, the sound return once the tires starts to wear off unevenly. The sound is as though u have a punture and its loud. Was told not to change tires but change lower arm 1st.

True enuff, after the lower arm was replaced the sound was still present (cos tyres oredi worn unevenly) but it was only after I change the tires that the sound was totally eliminated.

I did feel the tires and can feel the humps and bumps laugh.gif

I just change 4 tyres 2 month back. I have been using the continental set for more then 2 yrs.The tyres rubber has sort of harden due to the more then 2 yrs on the road. Even when there was still treads but they were unevenly wear. This is because i have not rotated it as recommended. Rotation should be done at about 10K kilometer.

If you stay in HDB with muti-storey car park, your left tyre will wear out first because of the impact when you turn. This will be so especially you are like me who drive up & down quite fast & also will cause the alighment to be out. So nowadays i try not to do hard cornering.

Do you have DBS credit card? If you do you can charge using it with 12 months free interest installment at stamford. I change my tyres to falken Digneo DN-614(91H- speed up to 210km/h), its very quiet, stable & not so expensive . Well i think all mechanic are human even if he is from China. Do your own checking before you drive off.

Its about $90 each & cost me monthly about $40++ with 12 months installment. But you must buy other thing to make it to $500.

If you have spare money to burn try Falken Azenis ST115. I used this before but it's abit noisy, but very stable in term of grip, cornering & wet weather.

As for the uneven wear, you can feel it with your plam...if its bluging or uneven you can feel it. A uneven tyre have less area of contact on the road & very unstable. bulging tyres must be change ASAP because it might blow when you are doing hard cornering or speeding.I dont belive [hur] in saving money on tyres & brakes.

I will invest the money in safety rather then Modifications.

kk... I realised that only when I try to make right turn and when I slow down at traffic light, the sound comes back... From stop to start, sound comes back until ard 30km/h... After tat no more sound... I'm guessing right wheel or the right side assembly got problem... [hur]

Anywayz, wat bearing are u guys talking abt? Before rotation, no such funny sounds... After rotation, I collected a car that pretend it's a helicopter... [sweatdrop][sweatdrop]

I was also thinking... Should it be the tire issue, i might as well upgrade my wheels... seems 14" wheels have very little selection... [drivingcar]

Only thing is... I've to wait to get my NEW RIMS [thumbsup][thumbsup][nosebleed][nosebleed][drivingcar]
