you are shot both way. Either you invest to buy a battery starter or pay to join AA. The only other way is jump start or push start. And it doesn't work for maintenance free battery.

Why do u think maintenance battery cant be jump started? my last two batteries both died on me. I jump started both of them with another car's battery before changing them.

My first one i even use the battery for a few more months after i jump started it.

All of them were maintainance free.

I meant maintenance free battery...If you can use it for a while more, it is still alright....it is probably drained because short, however, when it dies, it is dead. A dead battery cannot be charged.

My car battery died because of my stupid mistake on Sunday. I called up STAR (DBS Esso free service) to help jumpstart the car. At the same time, I noticed the current battery is quite a goner...(hmmmm, when did i last check it??) So, when the recovery van comes, and they suggest replacing it with a Amaron MF 60Ah battery @ $90 on the spot. I immediately jumped at it as I had the impression it usually costs $100++.

Now come to think, is it really worth it? Got ppl selling at $60... here

Worth it but before you jumped into it, you should have checked what are the CCA and RC your car needed and not just the capacity at 60Ah.

In our climate, CCA isn't a factor so getting the minimum required CCA is good enough. You should aim for a battery with higher RC. So given a couple of batteries with 60Ah but one with higher RC, you should go for the one with higher RC.

What's CCA and RC and how to check them? sweatdrop.gif Anyway, I was using the 60Ah for the previous battery, so I replaced it using the same one.

BTW, I found that after changing the new battery. The car is given a new lease of life. The window winds up faster and no straining, the aircon does not squeaking so much also, and best of all, the pickup seems to have improved! laugh.gif

CCA stands for Cold Crank Amps. There is English, US and DIN CCA but whatever it is, not crucial here because CCA is rated at -18 deg C. So it is for the battery's performance in cold conditions but you still need to meet you car's minimum CCA performance.

RC stands for reserve capacity. US batteries are rated with RC. Warmer climates, higher RC the better. Why, lasts longer! RC is measured in minutes.

This kind of explains why my stock Aveo battery which is a 55Ah, 550CCA but has an RC of 90min. That is pretty high for a battery used in a smallish 1.4L car. Closing to 2yrs with it and the hydrometer indicator is still as green as the day I received the car brand new.
