Gadgeter 2nd Gear September 20, 2005 Share September 20, 2005 you can pump 210 or 220. If you pump 240, you will find that the ride gets a bit bumpy.
Octopus 3rd Gear September 20, 2005 Share September 20, 2005 Me having the same size tyres as yours. I usually pump 240 front and 225 rear, but I pump when its hot (after traveling for >5km).
N00b 4th Gear September 20, 2005 Share September 20, 2005 y do u pump different amts for front n back??
Octopus 3rd Gear September 20, 2005 Share September 20, 2005 Cos the front is heavier than the rear in most car, as that's where the engine is located. Moreover, especially when emergency braking, most of the weight will be on the front tyre, so its better to have a 'stiffer' front tyre.
Skin711 Neutral Newbie September 20, 2005 Share September 20, 2005 then why pump when its hot? Thxs.
Octopus 3rd Gear September 20, 2005 Share September 20, 2005 Actually to get the true (correct) pressure, better to pump when cold. This is easier if your home/workplace is near petrol kiosk. Alternately, can pump a bit higher pressure, and then adjust (release air) to the correct pressure when the tyre had cooled down using a tyre pressure guage. I pump when hot, so agar-agar the correct pressure will be slightly lower than the pressure I had pumped in. The nearest petrol kiosk is 7 km away from my work place, and I usually pump on my way home.
Tankm Neutral Newbie September 20, 2005 Share September 20, 2005 Over-inflat tyres will not help in braking...infact it will be worst.
Octopus 3rd Gear September 20, 2005 Share September 20, 2005 How much would you consider to be over-inflating?
Kawan 1st Gear September 20, 2005 Share September 20, 2005 Follow the label on the car lah ... even if your tyre may be a little bigger than the original. The measurement that we talk about is for air pressure not air volume ... so i think it does not mean bigger tyre need higher air pressure. That's my assumption, expert reading this pls let me know if i am wrong. For me the label said 220 for front, and 210 for back. So i pump 230 for front and 220 for back when it is cold ... because i think some air will come out when i disconnect the pump (can hear the sound). I will try 225 and 215 next time since it is a little bit more bumpy. There is one time i pump after a long drive ... the reading show > 230 for all tyres, so the result is some air released, and when it cools down, the tyre feel very flat .. so i had to rush to a nearby petrol station to pump the next morning.
