The D-Compact 4x4 is a convincing-looking concept car featuring a roomy and practical four-door body that avoids the bulk, high fuel consumption and negative image of some off-roaders. It will be unveiled at 12.45 pm on Tuesday, 13 September in Hall 6, Stand C11. Considerably wider than the current production Terios 1.3 sport utility, the D-Compact 4x4 features a new high-torque 105 PS 1.5 litre DOHC 16-valve petrol engine derived from that fitted to the new Sirion. Its full-time four-wheel drive system includes a mechanical centre differential lock and Vehicle Stability Control. The body includes state-of-the-art technologies safeguarding both occupants and pedestrians. Following Daihatsu's own tests, the D-Compact matched a Euro NCAP three-star rating. Compared to the Terios, the D-Compact 4x4 measures 4,075 mm long (3,845 mm) with a width of 1,745 mm (1,555 mm) and height of 1,760 mm (1,695 mm), while its wheelbase is 2,580 mm (2,420 mm). Further illustrating its squat and stable stance, the front and rear tracks are 1,445 mm and 1,480 mm respectively compared to the Terios Tracker's 1,315 mm and 1,310 mm. ↡ Advertisement
