DarkLord 1st Gear September 2, 2005 Share September 2, 2005 Hi Admin, how come now using the search function need to wait 10 secs for the next search? Even if I just click on the next page to look at other search results, the error msg of needing to wait 10 secs appears.. With all the promoting of using the search function, this is kinda of a downer right? ↡ Advertisement
Admin Clutched September 2, 2005 Share September 2, 2005 The 10 seconds wait has been there for a few months already, coz some users are found to be delibrately using the search to slow the entire forum down. A search on our database can be quite intensive as the forum is very big. I am surprised that you noticed that for the same search term when you click to go to the next page. We purposely ensure that if you are looking for the same item, you will not get the 10 seconds wait since the results is already cached. I tried to look for "toyota" and it didnt prompt me on the wait. What did you search for? I will go and test it out.
DarkLord 1st Gear September 6, 2005 Author Share September 6, 2005 I was searching on EPS fuel saver. But now I didn't encounter the problem anymore. Could be a one of glitch then. Thanks anyway!
Drift_dreamer Neutral Newbie September 9, 2005 Share September 9, 2005 Hey Admin, there's an exploit. Once the 10seconds violation page comes up, I'll just click Back and everything's fine. So it's the same as not having the 10seconds limitation. Just for your info.
Admin Clutched September 10, 2005 Share September 10, 2005 Ah yep you are right. Thanks for pointing that out. I have fixed the code.
Kd2000 Neutral Newbie January 18, 2006 Share January 18, 2006 The Search seems to be only looking at specific word. If you key in MX-5, COE, OPC it will not return any results. Is there any limitation in terms of word length?
Admin Clutched January 18, 2006 Share January 18, 2006 To reduce the size of the search index(now about 2GB), we configured it to search for words with 4 letters and above only. Thats why COE, OPC all will not give you any result. Sorry about that. We need a much more powerful server.... Our current server is already maxed out... ↡ Advertisement
