Gtr206 Neutral Newbie September 5, 2005 Author Share September 5, 2005 Ya, but there's one inlet and one outlet pipe right? Ok, inlet should be from engine breather side but what about the outlet pipe? Where should it go?
Elfenstar 3rd Gear September 5, 2005 Share September 5, 2005 The air should travel from the breather to the catch can and back to where the breather was pumbed back into.
Gadgeter 2nd Gear September 5, 2005 Share September 5, 2005 Let me try to make it simple.. Inlet: from your engine breather. Outlet: connect to the black pipe (near TB).

Ferrariz Neutral Newbie November 3, 2005 Share November 3, 2005 it helps by not clogging up your throttle body with all the oil
Elfenstar 3rd Gear November 3, 2005 Share November 3, 2005 (edited) Okies... the hoses are to vent pressure from the crank out of the engine. there may be some blow by (read as engine oil vapours) even when brand new which would cause pollution so the air is vented back into the intake system. The problem is that engine oil lowers the octane of the fuel in the combustion chamber increasing the likelyhood of pinging. this is extremely detrimental to the engine, even in a NA car. The oil catch can is supposed to prevent as much of the oil from going back into the intake chamber by "catching" the oil vapours. Edit: Some setups run a breather (read as small filter ) on the catch can with only one hose from the engine going to it with no hose to the intake. Gadgeter: thanks i can be fairly long winded at times Edited November 3, 2005 by Elfenstar
FGY7022 Neutral Newbie November 3, 2005 Share November 3, 2005 whoa!! thanks for enlightening..... but it seems that a turbo car will need a oil catch tank more than a NA car.... to a certain extend.... not necessary for a NA car hor...
Elfenstar 3rd Gear November 3, 2005 Share November 3, 2005 Not really. I still think its more important in high powered and tuned NA cars. Btw, nissan has is standard in some NA engines. Not too sure about the other makes. Anyway its a good idea as once you can start seeing the oil in the catch can, it means its time for an overhaul soon. Its not expensive and is a good preventive measure if you have an older car.
