Trex101 3rd Gear September 17, 2005 Share September 17, 2005 Yeah... Use for 5k also worth the money, but not worth the time and effort to keep changing oil at 5k intervals... Using a thicker oil than is necessary is not really worth the money. For example if you save even 0.5km/l by using a thinner oil like 10w30 or 5w30, you would have save more than $50 in 10k with our current fuel prices. Example Current FC = 12km/l using 5w40 10000/12=833 litre of fuel use for 10000km New FC = 12.5km/l using thinner oil like 10w30, 5w30 or even 5w20 10000/12.5=800 litre 33 litre x 1.722(Ron 92)=$56 save on fuel cost A general rule of lubrication is to use the lowest viscosity possible which will provide the proper separation of metal. Anything more than the min will increase power loss due to friction and will reduce the pumpability of the oil at all temp. ↡ Advertisement
